WPIAL Baseball Highlights

The WPIAL baseball playoffs are in full swing and there have been some great games so far. Here are some scores and highlights from the first round of action:

In Class 4A, top-seeded Pine-Richland took care of business against No. 16 Plum, winning 9-1. The Rams will take on No. 8 Peters Township in the quarterfinals.

No. 2 North Allegheny also advanced with a 9-1 win over No. 15 Bethel Park The Tigers will face No. 7 Canon-McMillan in the quarterfinals.

In Class 3A, No. 3 seeded Baldwin defeated No., 14 Woodland Hills 9-3. The Highlanders will take on No. 6 Armstrong in the quarterfinals.

There was an upset in Class 2A as No., 11 Steel Valley knocked off No., 6 Mt Pleasant 2-1 in Extra Innings . The Ironmen will take Thomas Jefferson the No., 3 seed, in the quarterfinals..

The WPIAL baseball season is in full swing, and we’ve got your scores and highlights right here.

In Class A action, Beaver Falls took down New Castle, 3-1. Tim Troup got the win on the mound, going seven innings and striking out nine batters. Sam Engel chipped in with two hits and an RBI.

In Class AAAA, Seneca Valley blanked Pine-Richland, 7-0. Justin Taylor threw a complete game shutout, giving up just four hits while striking out eight batters. At the plate, Luke Hauser had a big day going 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

In other action, Quigley Catholic downed Neshannock, 6-3; Central Valley topped Ambridge, 9-8; South Side Beaver prevailed over Rochester, 10-9; and Ellwood City came out on top against Mohawk, 8-7.

The WPIAL baseball season is in full swing and we have your scores and highlights from around the league.

In Class AAAA, Upper St. Clair continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 9-1 win over Bethel Park. Pitcher Ryan Weathers struck out 11 batters in the victory.

In Class AAA West Allegheny got back to .500 on the season with a 10-2 win over South Fayette The Lions were led by pitcher Steve Hadzinka, who struck out eight batters in six innings of work.

In Class AA, Freedom picked up a big division win, defeating Beaver Falls 9-3. The Bulldogs were led by catcher Matt McKnight, who had three hits and four RBIs in the game.

And in Class A, Chartiers-Houston continued their perfect start to the season with a 12-2 win over Georgetown. The Buccaneers were led by pitcher Zach Giannotti, who allowed just one hit in six innings of work.

Class 4A

First round

Bethel Park 5, Peters Township 1

BP: Winning pitcher Tyler Ralston goes the distance, giving up one run on seven hits while striking out three.

Canon-McMillan 2, Seneca Valley 1 (8 innings)

CM: Winning pitcher Ryley Overcash allows one run on four hits in eight innings while striking out 10. Canon-Mac reaches the semifinals for the first time since 2015.

North Allegheny 3, Plum 2 (9 innings)

NA: Winning pitcher Matt Bunting strikes out 13 in a complete game, allowing two runs on four hits. North Allegheny reaches the semifinals for the first time since winning the WPIAL title in 2014.

In Class A action, North Catholic defeated South Fayette 2-1 in extra innings Luke Plummer had the game-winning RBI for the Trojans.

In Class AAAA, Butler shut out Seneca Valley 4-0. Will Schoenfeldt had two hits and two RBIs for the Golden Tornado.

And in Class AAA, Mohawk downed New Castle 3-2. Michael Robinson had the game-winning hit for the Warriors in the bottom of the seventh inning

WPIAL baseball teams were in action Tuesday night. Here are the scores and highlights:

Bethel Park 2, Peters Township 1 – Max Kretzer had two hits, including a home run and two RBIs to lead Bethel Park.

Mt. Lebanon 10, Upper St. Clair 0 – Mt. Lebanon score nine runs in the first three innings en route to the win. Jason Mercurio and Luke Pacsi each had two hits for the Blue Devils

Canon-McMillan 3, Norwin 1 – Canon-McMillan scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally for the win. Domenic Rubio had two hits for the Big Macs.
