Three-Point Percentage
Although there are many offensive statistics that basketball fans track, one of the simplest and most important is the three-point percentage. This stat measures the percentage of three-pointers made by a player or team, and is an excellent way to compare the shooting efficiency of different players and teams.
In general, the higher a team’s three-point percentage, the better their offense is performing. However, there are a few caveats to this rule. First, teams that rely heavily on the Three-Point Shot may have a higher percentage but score fewer overall points than teams that don’t shoot as many threes. Second, teams with poor shooting percentages may still be successful if they make up for it by taking more three-pointers than their opponents.
The following table lists the Top 10 Wyoming High School Basketball teams in terms of Three-Point Percentage for the 2017-2018 season
Turnovers
Wyoming is ranked 344th in the nation in turnovers, as they commit 18.3 per game. That statistic is good for 12th in the Mountain West Conference
Plus/Minus
Wyoming has had many great basketball players throughout its history. Some of the best have been those who led the team in plus/minus, a statistic that measures the difference in points scored by a team while a particular player is on the court compared to when that player is off the court.
In the 2016-17 season Wyoming’s top three plus/minus leaders were Joshua Adams (+3.8), Alan Herndon (+3.4), and Hayden Dalton (+2.8). These three players helped the Cowboys to a 26-9 record and a berth in the NCAA tournament
In recent years plus/minus has become an increasingly important statistic in basketball, as it provides a more accurate measure of a player’s impact on the game than traditional statistics like points and rebounds. With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of Wyoming’s all-time leaders in plus/minus.
First on the list is Thomasham Brooks, who played for Wyoming from 2006 to 2010. Brooks was a key player on some very successful Cowboy teams, including the 2009-10 squad that went 29-6 and won the Mountain West conference tournament In his four years at Wyoming, Brooks posted a plus/minus of +715, which is still the best mark in school history.
Next up is Josh Adams, who just finished his junior season with the Cowboys. Adams has been one of Wyoming’s best players over the last two years, and his +689 career plus/minus is second-best in school history. With one more season to play, Adams has an excellent chance to finish his career as Wyoming’s all-time leader in this important Statistic
