5 UNC Basketball Players Who Deserve More Playing Time
The North Carolina Tar Heels have a lot of talent on their roster, but only five players see significant playing time. Here are the five players who deserve re Playing time according to their performance.
Joel Berry II
As a senior, Joel Berry II has been a big part of Carolina’s success over the past few years. He was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2017 Final Four and he was a key player on last year’s National Championship team. Despite all of his accomplishments, Berry doesn’t get nearly enough credit. He’s one of the most underrated players in the country and he deserves more playing time.
Berry is averaging 11.8 points and 3.3 assists per game this season, but those numbers don’t tell the whole story. He’s been Carolina’s best player in crunch time and he always seems to make the big shot when the Tar Heels need it most. In addition to his scoring and playmaking abilities, Berry is also a very good defender. He often takes on the task of guarding the opposing team’s best perimeter player and he does a great job of slowing them down.
If Carolina is going to make a run at another National Championship they will need Berry to step up and play even better than he has so far this season. We all know he’s capable of it and we hope to see him get the credit he deserves in the coming weeks.
Theo Pinson
Theo Pinson a 6’6” senior from Greensboro, NC, is one of the most versatile players on the UNC basketball team He can play multiple positions and is a valuable asset on both Offense and defense Pinson is averaging 12.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game this season. Despite his impressive stats, Pinson is only averaging 27 minutes of playing time per game. He deserves to be on the court more and should be given the opportunity to show what he can do.
Luke Maye
Luke Maye has been one of the most improved players on the team this season and has turned into a reliable big man for the Tar Heels He’s averaging 7.4 points and 6.1 rebounds in just over 22 minutes per game, but those numbers would be even better if he were playing more.
Kenny Williams
One player who may not be getting as much playing time as he deserves is junior guard Kenny Williams. Williams has started 21 games this season and is averaging 9.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game while shooting 41.5 percent from the field and 37 percent from three-point range He provides the Tar Heels with a spark on both ends of the floor, using his 6’4” frame to attack the basket and his quickness to stay in front of opposing guards on defense. In ACC play, Williams is averaging 10.1 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 42 percent from the field and 36 percent from three-point range.
Seventh Woods
Seventh Woods is a freshman on the UNC Basketball team He was ranked as a five-star recruit by ESPN and was the number one point guard in his class. He has only played in nine games this season, averaging 5.4 minutes per game. Woods is incredibly athletic and has the potential to be a great player for UNC. He should be getting more playing time.
