Fayette County is lucky to have some of the best basketball players in the state. If you’re looking to watch some top-tier basketball this season, here are the five Fayette County players you should keep an eye on:
1. Sarah Ingram, Senior, Forward
Sarah is a four-year starter for the Lady Lions and is one of the most versatile players in the county. She can shoot from the outside, post up inside, and is a tenacious rebounder. She’s also a great leader, and her teammates look to her for guidance on and off the court.
2. John Walsh, Junior, Guard
John is one of the quickest players in the county and uses his speed to his advantage on both ends of the court. He’s an excellent scoreriden and has the ability to create his own shot or find an open teammate when he penetrates into the lane. He’s also a lockdown defender and has been known to cause havoc for opposing teams’ offenses.
3. Lauren Davis, Senior, Center
Lauren is a big reason why Fayette County is one of the top teams in the state year in and year out. She’s a force in the paint on both ends of the court and can score with either hand around the basket. She’s also an elite rebounder and shot blocker, which makes her a nightmare for opposing teams’ offenses.
4. Tyler Johnson Sophomore, Guard
Tyler burst onto the scene last year as a freshman and quickly established himself as one of Fayette County’s best players. He’s an extremely smart player with a High Basketball IQ who always seems to be in control of the game on both ends of the court. He has a great shooting touch from long range and is also very adept at getting to the basket and finishing with contact.
5. Hannah Bartlett, Senior, Forward
Hannah is another player who has been starting for Fayette County since she was a freshman. She’s an excellent all-around player who can score inside or out, rebound ferociously, and play tough defense against any opponent. She’s also a great leader by example and always gives 100% effort on every play.

In this final installment of our “Top 5 players to watch” series, we’ll be featuring the top 5 players from Fayette County. These athletes are sure to impress on the court this season, so be sure to keep an eye out for them!
5) Tyler Greene – Tyler is a senior at Fayette County High School and has been a varsity starter for the past two seasons. He’s a versatile player that can score, rebound, and play defense Tyler is also a strong leader and will be looked to for guidance by his teammates.
4) Alex Abrams – Alex is a junior at Fayette County high school and is one of the team’s best shooters. He has a great stroke from long range and isn’t afraid to take Big Shots Alex will be looked to for scoring this season and will need to step up his production if the team wants to be successful.
3) Josh Heard – Josh is a senior at Fayette County high school and is one of the team’s best defenders. He has quick hands and feet and does a great job of staying in front of his man. Josh will also be asked to contribute offensively this season, as he’s capable of scoring in multiple ways.
2) Michael Porter – Michael is a junior at Fayette County High School and is one of the best all-around players in the county. He can score, rebound, and play defense at a high level. Michael will be counted on heavily this season as the team looks to make a deep run in the playoffs.
1) Zion Williamson – Zion is a senior at Fayette County high school and is one of the Top Players in the country. He’s an elite athlete that can do it all on the court. Zion will be looked to as the leader of this team and will need to shoulder much of the load if they want to be successful this season.

In no particular order, here are the top 5 juniors to watch entering the 2018-2019 season.
Honorable Mentions: Braylon Sharpe (G), Tavin Lovan (F), and Anthony Duplechin (G)
5. MJ Rice (F/C, 6’7”): One of the tallest players in the county, Rice showed vast improvement from his sophomore to junior year. His biggest attribute is his athleticism; he runs the floor very well for a big man and is an excellent finisher around the rim. Another thing that makes him unique is his outside shooting; he shot 35% from 3 last season which forced opposing teams to respect his shot and open up driving lanes for his teammates. Defensively, he’s a bit raw but has all the tools to be a very good defender at the next level. He needs to continue to work on his footwork and being in better position when helping off of his man but he has shown flashes of being a very good weakside shot-blocker. Heading into his senior year, he will be looked at to be one of the leaders on and off the court for a young Leopards team.
4. Quincey McGhee (G, 6’2”): McGhee is an extremely gifted scorer and one of the best pure shooters in the county. He consistently knocked down shots from all over the court last season, whether it was off the dribble or coming off of screens. He doesn’t have blazing speed but he knows how to use crafty dribble moves and change of pace to get by defenders. He also showed great improvement as a decision maker; he cut down on his turnovers and did a much better job of finding open teammates when defenses collapsed on him. Defensively, he has quick hands and does a good job of using his body to stay in front of quicker guards. Going into his senior year, he will be one of the main focal points on offense for a Falcons team that will look to make some noise in region play.
3. Rasheed Brooks (G/F, 6’6”): Brooks is an extremely versatile player that can play and guard multiple positions on the court. At 6’6”, he has great size for a wing player and uses it well on both ends of the floor. Offensively, he does most of his damage around the midrange area but is also capable of hitting threes; he shot 37% from three last season while taking nearly three per game. He uses his size well when finishing around rim and also showed great improvement as a passer last season, averaging nearly four assists per game while only turning it over 1 time per game. Defensively, he has quick feet and uses his long arms well to bother shooters; he also does a good job of using his body to box out opposing players on rebounding opportunities. Going into next season, Brooks will be looked at to provide leadership for a young team as they look to make some noise in region play.

2. Devin Booker – Booker is a 6’6″ small forward who is averaging 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists per game He is a versatile player who can score from anywhere on the court. He has been one of the most consistent players on the team and has helped them to a 16-4 record.
3. Tyler Ulis – Ulis is a 5’10” point guard who is averaging 14 points, 7 assists, and 3 rebounds per game He is an excellent distributor of the ball and does a great job of running the team’s offense. He has helped the team to a 16-4 record and is one of the top point guards in the state.

A 6’8″ forward from Georgetown, Malik Campbell is one of the most versatile players in the county. He can score inside and out, he rebound well, and he’s an active defender. 5. Jace Johnson – Johnson is a 6’2″ senior guard on the Northside high school Basketball team He is averaging 16 points and 4 rebounds per game so far this season and is a big reason why the Northside Eagles are off to a 10-3 start.
4. Emma Harper – Harper is a 5’9″ senior forward on the Pike County high school basketball team She is averaging 17 points and 7 rebounds per game and is one of the leaders on a Pike County team that is 11-2 on the season.
