As we enter the 2020-21 season, there are a few Louisville women’s basketball recruits who are worth keeping an eye on. Here’s a look at who they are and what they bring to the table.
5-star recruits
The Louisville Cardinals women’s basketball team is currently ranked No. 2 in the nation according to the Associated Press poll. They have compiled a 23-1 record and their only loss came to the hands of the current No. 1 team, Connecticut. In order to maintain their high level of play, they will need to continue to bring in high-level recruits. Here are five 5-star recruits that they are currently targeting:
1. Paige Bueckers – The consensus number one player in the country, Bueckers is a 5-foot-11 guard from Hopkins, Minnesota. She is an excellent shooter and has a very High Basketball IQ. She would be an instant starter for Louisville and would be a huge piece in their quest to win a National Championship
2. Rennia Davis – Davis is a 6-foot-2 wing from Jacksonville, Florida. She is an elite scorer and rebounder and has the ability to take over a game on both ends of the court. She would be a great compliment to Bueckers in Louisville’s backcourt and would give them one of the best duos in the country.
3. Aaliyah Edwards – Edwards is a 6-foot-3 forward from Canada who currently attends Hamilton Heights Christian Academy in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She is an excellent athlete with a high motor who can score inside and out. she would give Louisville another versatile weapon on offense and provide them with some much-needed size on defense.
4.-5.* Jordan Horston/Dana Evans – Horston is a 6-foot guard from Columbus, Ohio who currently attends Montverde Academy in Florida. Evans is a 5-foot-6 guard from Gary, Indiana who attends Wagner College on Staten Island New York.* Both are talented scorers with the ability to create their own shot or get their teammates involved.* Horston would give Louisville another ball handler and perimeter shooter while Evans would provide them with instant offense off the bench.* They are both currently committed to Louisville but could potentially reclassify for the 2020 class.*
4-star recruits
The Louisville women’s Basketball team has four recruits who have been ranked as four-Star Prospects by ESPNW. Here’s a look at who they are and what they bring to the Cardinals:
Madi Welch is a 6-foot-1 guard from Owensboro, Kentucky. She’s ranked as the No. 22 guard in the nation and the No. 101 player overall. Welch is a versatile guard who can score from anywhere on the court. She’s an excellent shooter and has the ability to take over a game on offense.
Jaelyn Richard-Harris is a 6-foot-3 guard/forward from Lithonia, Georgia. She’s ranked as the No. 26 guard in the nation and the No. 103 player overall. Richard-Harris is a long and athletic wing who can do a little bit of everything on the court. She’s an excellent defender and rebounder, and she has the ability to knock down shots from the perimeter.
Kiara Lewis is a 6-foot guard from Rahway, New Jersey. She’s ranked as the No. 33 guard in the nation and the No. 109 player overall. Lewis is an explosive scoring guard who can fill it up in a hurry. She’s also an outstanding passer and has a High Basketball IQ.
Rachel Slaughter is a 6-foot-1 forward from Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. She’s ranked as the No. 34 forward in the nation and the No. 110 player overall. Slaughter is a physical forward who knows how to use her body to her advantage in the post. She’s an excellent rebounder and shot blocker, and she has a nice touch around the basket on offense
3-star recruits
The Louisville women’s basketball team has five 3-star recruits for the 2019-20 season Here’s a look at who they are and what they bring to the Cardinals.
Emilywolves is a 6’1″ Power Forward from St. Louis, MO. She’s ranked as the No. 97 player in the nation by espnW and the No. 40 player at her position. She’s a versatile player who can shoot from the outside and is a good rebounder.
Norika Konno is a 5’9″ point guard from Osaka, Japan. She’s ranked as the No. 4 player in Japan and the No. 18 point guard in the world by ESPN. Konno is a quick and aggressive player who can get to the basket and shoot from long range.
Molly Lockhart is a 6’0″ shooting guard from Lexington, KY. She’s ranked as the No.. 71 player in her class by ESPN and the No.. 30 shooting guard in the nation. Lockhart is a solid all-around player who can score, rebound, and defend.
Olivia Elkins is a 6’3″ center from Georgetown, KY. She’s ranked as the No.. 90 player in her class by ESPN and the No.. 25 center in the nation. Elkins is a physical post player who can score inside and rebound well.
Mackenzie Holmes is a 6’4″ center from Indianapolis, IN. She’s ranked as the No.. 1 player in Indiana and the No.. 8 center in her class by ESPN,. Holmes is an athletic post player with great footwork and shot-blocking ability
2-star recruits
2-star recruits are not as highly rated as 5-star recruits, but they can still be players to watch for. Here are some 2-star recruits for the Louisville Women’s Basketball team
1-star recruits
Louisville women’s basketball currently has three 1-star recruits in their 2021 class. They are Camryn Cline, Trinity Brady, and Kynidi Hudson.
Cline is a 6’1″ forward from Danville, Kentucky. She is ranked as the 105th best player in the state of Kentucky and the 1,334th best player in the nation by ESPN Cline has good size and length for a forward, and she is a good rebounder and shot blocker.
Brady is a 5’8″ point guard from Louisville, Kentucky. She is ranked as the 18th best player in the state of Kentucky and the 566th best player in the nation by ESPN. Brady is a very quick guard with good handles and a high basketball IQ.
Hudson is a 6’3″ center from Cincinnati, Ohio. She is ranked as the 31st best player in the state of Ohio and the 1,023rd best player in the nation by ESPN. Hudson is a physical post player who runs the court well and finishes around the basket with both power and touch.
Unranked recruits
The University of Louisville women’s basketball team has become known for their ability to successfully recruit top talent, even if those players are unranked by traditional measures. Here are some unranked recruits who may be worth watching in the coming years:
-Mia Davis: A 6’3 forward from Pennsylvania, Davis is a versatile player who can score inside and out. She was named Pennsylvania’s Gatorade Player of the Year as a junior after averaging 21 points, 11 rebounds, and four blocks per game.
-Shelby Boyle: A 6’2 guard from Virginia, Boyle is an excellent shooter with a High Basketball IQ. She led her team to the state semifinals as a junior, averaging 15 points, five rebounds, and three assists per game
-Kathryn Westbeld: A 6’3 forward from Ohio, Westbeld is a physical presence in the post with a nice touch around the basket. She averaged 17 points and 10 rebounds per game as a junior, leading her team to the state championship game.
Overseas recruits
The Louisville women’s basketball team has reloaded its roster with some talented overseas recruits. Here are some of the players to watch for:
-Miah Spencer is a 6’0″ guard/forward from Australia. She’s a versatile player who can score inside and out.
-Natalie Chou is a 6’1″ guard from China. She’s an excellent shooter with a nice touch from outside.
-Sasha Gordon is a 6’4″ center from Russia. She’s a big, strong post player who can rebound and block shots
Transfer recruits
Due to NCAA regulations, Louisville women’s basketball coach Jeff Walz and his staff are not able to comment on specific recruits until they have signed a National Letter of Intent However, there has been plenty of speculation about who the Cardinals might be targeting in the transfer market. Here are some of the names to keep an eye on:
Leslie Robinson, 6-1 guard: A former top-50 recruit, Robinson spent the last two seasons at North Carolina She would have to sit out one year under NCAA transfer rules, but she would have two years of eligibility remaining.
Dana Evans, 5-6 guard: Evans is a former McDonald’s All-American who was named the Big East Freshman of the Year at Louisville in 2016-17. She transferred to Kentucky after one season with the Cardinals and will have one year of eligibility remaining with her new team.
Myisha Hines-Allen, 6-2 forward: Hines-Allen was a first-team All-American as a junior at Louisville last season. She has not yet announced her intentions for her senior year, but if she does decide to transfer, she would be one of the most sought-after prospects in the country.

-Emma Clarke is a 5’10” guard from Glasgow, Kentucky. She was a Standout Player in High School averaging 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists per game
-Liz Duggins is a 6’1″ forward from Lexington, Kentucky. She was a highly sought-after recruit, but chose to walk on at Louisville instead of accepting a scholarship elsewhere. She averaged 14 points and 8 rebounds per game in high school
-Molly Jones is a 5’9″ guard from Bardstown, Kentucky. She was a key player on her high school team, averaging 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists per game
Coaching staff
The Louisville women’s Basketball Coaching Staff is led by Head Coach Jeff Walz. He is assisted by Stephanie Norman and Stefanie Pemper. Jeff Walz is in his eleventh season as Louisville’s head coach Under his guidance, the Cardinals have compiled a 241-88 record and made nine NCAA tournament appearances, including six Sweet Sixteen appearances and two Elite Eight trips. In 2009, he led the Cardinals to their first-ever appearance in the National Championship game.
Stephanie Norman is entering her ninth season as an Assistant Coach at Louisville. She has helped the Cardinals to eight NCAA Tournament appearances, including two Elite Eight trips and one Final Four appearance. Stefanie Pemper is in her sixth season as Louisville’s associate Head Coach She has helped the Cardinals to six NCAA tournament appearances, including two Sweet Sixteen trips and one Elite Eight appearance.
