Oral Roberts was born in 1918 in Ada, Oklahoma. He was a college baseball player and coach for many years. In 1954, he founded Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The school’s Baseball Team has won five NCAA Division I National Championships making it one of the most successful programs in the country.

ORU has been a member of the Mid-Continent Conference since 1992, winning the conference title in 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. The Golden Eagles also won the Missouri Valley Conference title in 1984 and 1985.
Oral Roberts has had 37 players drafted by Major League Baseball teams since the draft began in 1965. In addition to Cepeda, other notable ORU alumni include pitchers Steve Dischler and Mark Gubicza; infielders Joey Cora and Scott Hurst; and outfielders Pete Incaviglia and BrandonMobilio Spiers.
