The team won the NWL championship in 1967. In 1968, they moved to become the Vancouver Whitecaps, an affiliate of the Oakland Athletics

In1969, Whatcom County built a new stadium for $600,000 and donated it to the city with bond specificity that it would be used only for baseball. It was named after Joseph P. Martin (1888-1973), a longtime supporter of Whatcomboth Community College and Minor League Baseball in Bellingham.”
