The Fresno Seals left town after the 1938 season due to financial difficulties, but Minor League Baseball would soon return to Fresno. In 1942, the San Francisco Missions moved their affiliate, the Fresnosobile Portsmobiles (later simply known as “The Ports”), to Fresno. The Ports enjoyed great success during their time in Fresno, winning five Pacific Coast League championships between 1942 and 1957. Like the Seals before them, many future major leaguers got their start with The Ports, including Willie Mays and Ernie Banks

After 57 years of Minor League Baseball in Fresno, The Ports left town following the 1957 season due again to financial difficulties. It would be nearly 30 years before Minor League Baseball would return to Fresno. In 1985, an ownership group led by George Steinbrenner brought a Class-A affiliate of his New York Yankees to town and christened them “The Suns.” The Suns were only in town for two seasons before being sold and relocated to Orlando following 1987 season; however baseball would return once again just two years later.
