The team then went on an improbable run to the MAC Championship game where they lost to Central Michigan Despite the loss, Kent State had put together its best season in recent memory and gave its fans hope for the future.
In 2018, Kent State took another step forward, going 32-28 and again making it to the MAC tournament. The Golden Flashes once again made a run to the Championship game but this time they came out on top, defeating Bowling Green to win the title. It was Kent State’s first conference championship since 2001 and their first trip to the NCAA tournament since 2006.
The Golden Flashes’ string of success has continued into 2019. The team is currently 31-15 and in first place in the MAC East division. Kent State is once again poised to make a run at the conference tournament title and an NCAA berth.
