The rise of Mizzou Baseball
In recent years Mizzou Baseball has undergone a huge transformation.
Under the leadership of Head Coach Steve Bieser, the team has seen tremendous success. In just his first year at the helm, Coach Bieser led the Tigers to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in five years. The team followed that up with another NCAA appearance in 2018 and a spot in the SEC tournament in 2019.
This success can be attributed to several factors. First, Coach Bieser has instilled a culture of hard work and responsibility among his players. Second, he has assembled a talented coaching staff that knows how to develop players and put them in a position to succeed. Finally, he has recruited well, bringing in top-level talent from all over the country.

Mizzou Baseball’s culture
Since enterning the SEC in 2013, Mizzou baseball has noticed a dramatic uptick in talent. The culture surrounding the program has seen a similar change. The goal for the coaching staff is to keep their student-athletes hungry and to develop their skills both on and off the field.
The coaching staff also emphasized how important it is for their players to be men of character. They want their athletes to be involved in the community and to give back, something they feel is important for them as young men.
The team has also been active in trying to help with relief efforts following natural disasters, most recently Hurricane Florence.
Mizzou Baseball’s facilities
In 1998, Mike Anderson was hired as head coach of the Missouri baseball team Despite inheriting a program with a sub-.500 all-time record, Anderson quickly led the Tigers to new heights. In his first season, Missouri won a share of the Big Eight Conference regular season title – its first championship since 1980 – and made its first-ever appearance in the NCAA tournament
Over the next few years, Anderson would lead Missouri to three more conference titles and four more NCAA Tournament appearances. In 2001, the Tigers won a school-record 45 games and made it all the way to the College World Series – just the second team in Big Eight/12 history to do so.
After back-to-back seasons in which Missouri failed to make the NCAA Tournament Anderson was let go by new athletic director Mack Rhoades in 2006. Rhoades cited a need for “a fresh start” for the program as his reasoning for making the change.
In 2008, Tim Jamieson was hired as Anderson’s replacement. Like Anderson, Jamieson inherited a program with a losing record and quickly turned things around. In his first season, Missouri won 28 games and made it to the NCAA tournament for the first time in three years.
The Tigers would go on to make six straight NCAA Tournament appearances under Jamieson, including two trips to Omaha for the College World Series In 2010, Missouri won a school-record 53 games and finished ranked No. 4 in the country – its highest final ranking ever.
However, after back-to-back seasons without an NCAA Tournament appearance, Jamieson was let go by Rhoades in 2013. Once again, Rhoades cited a need for “a fresh start” for the program as his reasoning for making the change.

And they’ve only gotten better since then. In 2014, they made it to the College World Series for the first time in school history. And last year, they came within one game of winning it all, losing to Vanderbilt in the Championship Series
Coach Jamieson has been named Coach of the Year four times, and under his guidance, Mizzou has produced 19 MLB draft picks and 15 All-Americans.
The future looks bright for Mizzou baseball, and it’s all thanks to Coach Jamieson and his staff.

Mizzou Baseball’s place in the SEC under head coach Steve Bieser has been on the rise in recent years. The Tigers have shown improvement in both win-loss record and Conference Standings each year since Bieser’s first season in 2016. After a 2018 campaign that saw the team improve to 30-28 overall and 13-17 in SEC play, the Tigers have their sights set on even more success in 2019. With a talented group of returnees and some key newcomers, Mizzou is poised to make another jump in the standings and cement its place as a force to be reckoned with in the SEC.
