Mundelein high school baseball team is one of the most prominent sports teams in the state of Illinois. The team has been to the state championship game 3 times in the last 5 years, winning once. They have produced 3 MLB Draft picks in the last 5 years and have had multiple players go on to play Division 1 baseball. The 2021 season is shaping up to be another great one for Mundelein Baseball
The Rivalry
Mundelein High School’s Baseball Team is gearing up for what is promising to be an exciting season. The team has a strong offensive line-up with a deep pitching rotation. They are led by senior Captain Jack Ryan and Coach Joe Eliason. Mundelein is also fortunate to have one of the best facilities in the state, including a brand new state-of-the-art Turf Field
This year, the Mustangs will be looking to build on their success from last season when they made it all the way to the Sectional Finals. Their biggest rivals will be Libertyville high school and Carmel Catholic high school Both teams are talented and have strong lineups. The games between these three teams are always highly anticipated and very competitive.

The Stadium
The team’s home games are played at the high school’s on-campus stadium, which was built in 2008. The stadium has a capacity of 2,500 people and features a state-of-the-art turf field. The stadium is also equipped with a concessions stand, rest rooms, and a press box.
The Post-Season

These are two things that are always important in the post-season. But most importantly, they have heart. This is a team that never gives up and always finds a way to win.
The Mundelein Mustangs are led by their captain, senior pitcher Jake Mancuso. Jake has been the Heart and Soul of this team all season. He’s a leader on and off the field, and he knows how to win. He’s also an outstanding pitcher who has already committed to pitch at Northwestern University next year.
The Mustangs also have two other outstanding pitchers in senior Alex Lange and junior Andrew Mitchell. Alex is a lefty with a lot of heart. He’s pitched big games for the Mustangs all season, including a no-hitter against Warren earlier this year. Andrew is a hard-throwing righty who has been lights out all season long He was named first team All-Conference last week.
The Mustangs offense is led by senior third baseman Ryan Boyd and junior center fielder Max Engelhardt. Ryan is one of the best hitters in Lake County and he’s coming off a huge game against Stevenson last week where he had three hits, including two home runs and four RBIs. Max is one of the quickest players in Lake County, and he uses his speed to his advantage on both Offense and defense He had a huge game against Zion-Benton last week where he had three hits and four stolen bases

The Legacy
In Mundelein High School’s (MHS) 99-year history, the varsity baseball team has captured 23 conference championships 15 regional titles, and 7 State Championships The program boasts 7 Major League Baseball (MLB) alumni, including New York Yankee All-Star catcher Jorge Posada. Under the leadership of Head Coach Todd Parola, who enters his 19th season at the helm, the Mustangs are looking to add to their storied legacy in 2021.
Mundelein is coming off a strong 2020 campaign in which they went 27-10 (9-3 in conference), won the North Suburban Conference outright, and made it all the way to the IHSA Class 4A Elite Eight before ultimately falling to eventual state champion Marist. With most of last year’s team returning this season, the Mustangs have their sights set on taking that final step and winning it all in 2021.
Led by University of Illinois commit and senior ace Luke Zardzin (9-1, 1.77 ERA in 2020), Mundelein’s pitching staff is once again expected to be one of the best in the state. The Mustangs will also be featuring a dangerous lineup that includes senior sluggers Aiden Interlandi (.385 avg., 8 HR, 37 RBI in 2020) and Jack Mahoney (.353 avg., 5 HR, 26 RBI).
