Introduction

In baseball, a roster is a list of the players who are eligible to play for their team in an upcoming game or season. The word “roster” comes from the French word “rostre”, which means “beak” or “face”. A team’s roster is usually printed on the back of their baseball cards It is also common for fans to keep track of their favorite team’s roster so they can see which players are new and which ones have been traded or released.

The Texas A&M University baseball team is no exception! Here is a brief introduction to the 2020 Tamu baseball roster

The Field is where the nine Defensive Players plus the pitcher, take their positions when they are on defense. Position players There are nine of them and they play in the field. Here is a list of all the positions and what each player does.

Pitcher: The player who throws the ball to the catcher is the pitcher.
Catcher: The player who catches the ball from the pitcher is the catcher. They also throw the ball back to the pitcher.
First Baseman: The first baseman is responsible for catching balls that are hit to them and also for throwing balls to second base.
Second Baseman: The second baseman is responsible for catching balls that are hit to them and also for throwing balls to first base.

The Infield

The infield is the part of the baseball field closest to the batter. It typically consists of four positions: first base, second base, third base, and shortstop.

First base is the corner closest to home plate The first baseman’s job is to catch balls hit by the batter and throw them to another infielder (usually the second baseman) to force out runners. They also have to stretch for throws from other infielders, which can be difficult.

Second base is the middle of the three bases. The second baseman’s job is similar to the first baseman’s – they have to catch balls hit by the batter and then throw them to another infielder so that runners can be forced out. They also have to cover first base when needed.

Third base is the corner farthest from home plate The third baseman’s job is similar to that of the other infielders – they have to catch balls hit by the batter and then throw them to another infielder so that runners can be forced out. However, they also have to worry about runners stealing bases so they need to have a strong arm.

Shortstop is the last line of defense against hitters – their job is to catch balls hit by the batter and then throw them quickly to another infielder so that runners can be forced out. They also need a strong arm so that they can throw out runners who are trying to steal bases.

The Outfield

The outfield is a part of the baseball diamond consisting of the grassy area between the infield and the fence. An outfielder is a Defensive Player who occupies one of three positions in baseball, named left field center field, and right field. A fourth outfielder, who is often called a designated hitter (DH), bats in place of the pitcher.

Designated hitters (abbreviated DH) are hitters who do not play in the field. They may be used to replace the pitcher, or any position player except the catcher. The use of a designated hitter is forbidden by the rules of some baseball organizations. In Major League Baseball (MLB), the American League has employed a designated hitter since 1973; when an AL team plays NL rules, then it does not use a Designated Hitter
