The Early Days
The Ware County Baseball Team can trace its roots back to the early days of the school. The first organized team played in 1903, and the following year, the school fielded its first varsity squad. The team was coached by one of the school’s physical education teachers, Charles Turbeville. The squad played a handful of games against local teams and finished with a record of 3-1-1.
In 1905, the team joined the newly formed Georgia Interscholastic Association and finished the season with a record of 6-2. The following year, under new Head Coach J.W. Hatcher, the team posted a 9-1 record and won the GIAA championship.
The team remained competitive through the years and made several trips to the State Tournament in Atlanta. In 1929, under head coach Clifford Dorman, the team won its first state championship with a 3-2 victory over Brunswick in the finals. The following year, the team successfully defended its title with a 2-1 win over Bainbridge in the Championship game
The Ware County baseball team has a long and storied history dating back to the early days of the school. Through its more than 100 years of existence, the team has won two State Championships and remains one of Georgia’s top programs today.
The Glory Years
The Ware County baseball team was one of the most successful in the state during the late 1990s and early 2000s. They won the state championship in 1998 and 2000, and made it to the semifinals in 1999 and 2001. The team was led by a core group of players who went on to have successful college careers, including All-American pitcher JasonWindham.
The Post-Glory Years
The Ware County Baseball Team was once a powerhouse in high school baseball They won state championships in 1992, 1994, and 1996. However, they have not won a state championship since. In fact, they haven’t even made it to the state semifinals since 2002. So what happened?
The Resurgence
After years of decline, Ware County Baseball is on the rise again. Thanks to a dedicated group of die-hard fans, the team has seen a resurgence in popularity. From winning streaks to player injuries, here’s a look back at the team’s recent history.
The New Wave
The late 1970s and early 1980s saw the rise of a new wave of Ware County baseball players With the help of then-coach Ernie Yarbrough, the team became a powerhouse in Georgia High School baseball, winning four State Championships in a six-year span.
The Old Guard
The Ware County Baseball team has seen its fair share of ups and downs over the years. The team has been in existence since 1885, and while they have never won a World Series they have made it to the playoffs on several occasions.
In recent years the team has been in a bit of a slump, but there are still die-hard fans who remember the Glory Days of Ware County Baseball These fans are known as the “Old Guard.”
The Old Guard is a group of older fans who have been following the team for many years. They can be seen at every Home game cheering on the team and sharing their memories of better days.
