2017-2018 Northeastern Hockey Roster

The Northeastern Huskies men’s ice Hockey Team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college Ice Hockey program that represents Northeastern University. The Huskies are a member of the Hockey East conference. They play at the 6,000-seat Matthews Arena in Boston, Massachusetts. The Huskies are coached by Jim Madigan, in his ninth season.

Northeastern has appeared in five NCAA Division I Men’s Ice hockey Tournaments. Their best performance was in 2016, when they reached the Northeast Regional Final.

Forwards

At 6’9” and 220 pounds, weight isn’t an issue for Gaudet. The junior transfer from UMass Lowell will skate on the Huskies’ top line this season and use his size to create space for his linemates. He scored four goals and added five assists in 26 games last season.

Rookie forward Tyler Madden is one of the most talented players on the Huskies’ roster. The first-round NHL Draft pick (No. 68 overall by the Vancouver Canucks) had 102 points in just 50 games last season for the Tri-City Storm of the United States Hockey League He is a gifted playmaker with good vision and terrific hands.

Junior Dylan Sikura is a three-time 20-goal scorer who led the team in scoring last season with 44 points (17 goals, 27 assists). He is an excellent skater with good speed and quickness. Sikura is also a very good playmaker with good hockey sense.

Sophomore Zach Solow led Northeastern in scoring as a freshman last season with 45 points (16 goals, 29 assists). He is a very skilled player with good speed and quickness. Solow has very good hockey sense and is an excellent playmaker.

Defensemen

The Northeastern men’s Hockey Team is set to begin their 2017-2018 season this October, and fans are eager to see how the team will fare. Led by Head Coach Jim Madigan, the team is looking to improve upon their performance from last year, when they finished 21-14-5 overall and 11-9-4 in Hockey East play. Among the Key Players on the roster are several talented defensemen who will be key to the team’s success this season.

Senior captain Ryan Shea is among the most experienced members of the team, having played in 111 games over his three years at Northeastern. A skilled two-way defenseman, he had four goals and 17 assists last season and will be counted on to provide leadership on and off the ice. Junior Matt Filipe is another player to watch; he had a breakout year last season with eight goals and 15 assists in 38 games, and is expected to build on that success this year. Sophomore Jeremy Davies had a strong rookie campaign, tallying five goals and 19 assists in 40 games, and will look to build on that as he enters his second season.

Rounding out the group of defensemen are junior Luke McInnis, sophomore Anthony Wyse, and freshman Brandon McAndrews. McInnis is a solid stay-at-home defenseman who had one goal and seven assists in 33 games last season, while Wyse is a physical presence on the blueline who had one goal and four assists in 36 games. McAndrews is a talented freshman who comes to Northeastern after spending two seasons with Youngstown of the USHL; he is expected to make an immediate impact on the team.

With a mix of experienced veterans and promising young players the Northeastern defense corps looks poised to have a successful 2017-2018 season.

Goaltenders

Eddie Elsner

Elsner, a goaltender from Livonia, Michigan, enters his first season with the Huskies. He previously played for the Chicago Steel of the United States Hockey League (USHL), where he posted a .906 save percentage in 39 games during the 2016-2017 season.

2. Tyler Madden is a diminutive but skilled forward who was Northeastern’s leading scorer as a freshman last season. Madden is an excellent playmaker and has a knack for finding the back of the net, as evidenced by his team-leading 18 goals last year. 3. Zach Solow is a transfer from Brown University who will be eligible to play for Northeastern this season. A former USHL Rookie of the Year, Solow is an dynamic playmaker with good speed and vision. He should add another dimension to the Huskies’ offense and should be one of the team’s top scorers this season.

2017-2018 Schedule

The 2017-2018 Northeastern men’s Hockey Schedule was announced Wednesday, complete with 33 regular season games and 14 non-conference contests. The Huskies will open the season at TD Garden on Friday, October 6 against crosstown rival Boston University in the first meeting of the year between the two programs. That will be followed by a home-and-home series with Merrimack on October 13 and 14.

Game Highlights

The Northeastern men’s Hockey team is back in action this season and is ready to take on all challengers.
