Duluth East Hockey: A Tradition of Excellence

Duluth East High School’s Hockey Program is one of the most successful in the state of Minnesota. The Greyhounds have won nine State Championships including seven in the last fifteen years. Duluth East is also a perennial power at the national level, appearing in the USA Today/NHL high school hockey National Poll Top 25 poll multiple times over the past decade.

The History of Duluth East Hockey

Duluth East high school has a long and rich tradition of hockey excellence. The school has won 12 state championships more than any other high school in Minnesota. Duluth East’s first state championship came in 1934, and the most recent came in 2010. In between, the school won titles in 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1940, 1941, 1942, 1943, 1944, 1948, and 1949. No other high school in the state of Minnesota can match that level of success.

Since its inception in 1966, the Duluth East hockey program has been one of the most successful high school hockey programs in the country. TheProgram has won 11 State Championships more than any other high school in Minnesota. In addition, Duluth East has been crowned National high school Champions four times. The program has produced a long list of NHL players including three Hobey Baker Award winners. Duluth East is also a powerhouse at the youth level, winning multiple national championships at various age levels

With the recent success of the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs men’s Hockey Team which won the National Championship in 2011 and again in 2018, interest in hockey in the city of Duluth is at an all-time high.

The Duluth East Greyhounds have capitalized on this interest, and have seen a surge in participation in their Youth Hockey programs. The Greyhounds are consistently one of the top High School teams in Minnesota, and they have their sights set on winning another state championship
