Get to know the 2017-2018 Minnesota Duluth Men’s Hockey team!

Forwards

The forwards on the UMD Hockey Team are some of the most talented and hardworking players in the country. They have a tremendous work ethic and are always looking to improve their game. They are also very unselfish and care about their teammates and the team’s success.

UMD has a lot of depth at forward, with several players who can contribute offensively and defensively. The forwards on this team are strong skaters and have a great sense of Hockey IQ. They know how to play the game the right way and are always working to make themselves better.

The forwards on this team are:

Tyler Larwood – A senior from Virginia, Tyler is one of the team’s top scorers He is a gifted offensive player with a great work ethic. Tyler is also a very good Defensive Player and is always working to improve his game.

Mario Lambert – A junior from Quebec, Mario is another one of the team’s top scorers He is an extremely talented offensive player with a great shot and incredible vision. Mario is also a very good skater and has good hockey sense.

Austin Farley – A junior from Minnesota, Austin is one of the team’s most versatile forwards. He can play both Offense and defense well, and is always looking to make plays for his teammates. Austin is also a very good faceoff man and is excellent on special teams

Max Tardy – A sophomore from Minnesota, Max is another one of the team’s versatile forwards. He can play both wing and center, and is equally adept at both scoring goals and setting them up for his teammates. Max is also an excellent skater with good hockey sense.

Defense

The Bulldogs blue-line is young, but talented and will be vital to the team’s success this season.

Sophomore Emma Stauber returns as the team’s top defenseman after a stellar rookie campaign in which she was named to the WCHA All-Rookie Team and led the Bulldogs in scoring with 32 points (9g, 23a). Stauber’s plus/minus rating was also tops on the team at +21.

Joining Stauber on the blue-line are fellow sophomores Brittany McDonough, Lara Stalder and Sidney Morin. McDonough had a solid rookie season, appearing in 36 games and scoring seven points (2g, 5a). Stalder was limited to just 23 games due to injury, but still managed to put up eight points (2g, 6a). Morin appeared in 34 games as a freshman, chipping in five assists.

The Bulldogs also have two freshmen defensemen who are expected to make an immediate impact. Anna Kilponen comes to Duluth from Finland and has already represented her country at both the U18 and U22 levels. Kilponen is a dynamic offensive defenseman who has a nose for the net. She is joined by Lisa Marvin, who comes to Duluth from Warroad High School where she was a three-time recipient of the Minnesota Ms. Hockey Award.

Goalies

Being a good goalie requires not only skill, but also courage and athleticism. A great goalie is the last line of defense against the other team and can mean the difference between winning and losing.

The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs have two great goalies on their roster this year. Junior Mackenzie Johnson has been a key player for the Bulldogs, starting in all but one game this season. She has a save percentage of .935, which is among the best in the nation. Senior Katlyn Soucie has also been a key player for the team, appearing in 16 games with a save percentage of .925.

Both goalies have worked hard to help the Bulldogs achieve their current record of 25-3-1, which is the best in the nation. With Johnson and Soucie in net, the Bulldogs are sure to have a successful season

Coaches

The current UMD Head Coach is Shannon Miller, who is also the all-time winningest coach in NCAA women’s hockey. As a player, Miller was a member of the Canadian national team and won five IIHF World Women’s Championships, as well as an Olympic gold medal in 1992. In her 20 years as UMD’s head coach Miller has led the Bulldogs to seven NCAA tournament appearances and two Frozen Four appearances.

Captains

UMD has had two players serve as captain since the program’s inception in 2013. The current captain is junior defenseman Zoe Baird. Forward Sydney Brodt served as captain during her senior season in 2016-17.

Rookies

This season, the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs men’s Hockey Team has 9 rookies on the roster. Here is a little bit about each of them:

FORWARDS
-Jason Achtenberg is from Grand Forks North Dakota and is majoring in Biology.
Nick Anderson is from Duluth, Minnesota and is majoring in Exercise Science.
Noah Cates is from Stillwater, Minnesota and is majoring in Business Administration.
-Jack Doremus is from Boca Raton, Florida and is majoring in Communications.
-Luke Johnson is from GRand Rapids Minnesota and ismajoring in Accounting.

DEFENSE
-Hunter Lellig is from Stoughton, Wisconsin and is majoring in Finance.
-Nick Wolff is from Eden Prairie Minnesota and is majoring in sports management

GOALIE
-Tristan Katagiri is from Burnsville, Minnesota and his undecided on his major.

Injuries

The Minnesota Duluth Hockey team has seen a lot of injuries this season, with several Key Players sidelined for extended periods of time. Here’s a look at the current injury situation for the Bulldogs:

Forwards:
– Cole LaLiberte is out indefinitely with a concussion.
– Adam Johnson is out indefinitely with a back injury.
– Brendan Kotyk is day-to-day with an upper body injury.

Defensemen:
– Dylan Samberg is out indefinitely with a wrist injury
– Carson Soucy is out indefinitely with an elbow injury
– Louie Belpedio is day-to-day with an upper body injury.

Trades

-In October, the team traded defenseman Louis Belpedio to the Chicago Blackhawks for forward John Dahlstrom.
-In November, the team traded goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen to the Nashville Predators for a fifth-Round Draft pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft
-In December, the team traded forwards Sam Anas and Ryan Donato to the Arizona Coyotes for forwards Marian Hossa and Vinnie Hinostroza.

Free Agents

The Minnesota Duluth hockey team currently has three free agents free agents are players who have either been released by their previous team or whose contract has expired. The following is a list of the current free agents on the Minnesota Duluth roster:

History

The Minnesota Duluth hockey team has a long and storied history, dating back to the early days of the sport. The team has won multiple National Championships and their players have gone on to great success at the professional level.
