Alvernia University baseball roster Introducing the team

The Alvernia University baseball team is comprised of student-athletes who have demonstrated a strong commitment to their sport, their studies, and their community. We are proud to introduce you to the members of our 2019 roster.

Daniel Azzariti – Pitcher
A native of Reading, Pennsylvania, Daniel is a graduate of Exeter Township High School He is a member of the National Honor Society and was a four-year letter winner in baseball. Daniel is pursuing a degree in business administration at Alvernia University.

Andrew Bakowski – Catcher
A graduate of Tunkhannock Area high school Andrew was a four-year starter on the varsity baseball team. He was named captain his senior year and was an All-Conference selection. Andrew is studying marketing at Alvernia University.

Will de los Santos – Outfielder
Will is a native of San Juan Puerto Rico and a graduate of Academia del Perpetuo Socorro High School He was captain of his high school team and led them to two conference championships Will is enrolled in Alvernia University’s five-year MBA program.

Alvernia University baseball roster The Infield

Alvernia has a very strong and experienced infield for the 2017 season. They will rely on their balance of speed, power, and glove work to lead them back to the MAC Commonwealth playoffs.

The infield for Alvernia will feature:

First basemen Joe Murphy--He is a big power bat in the middle of the lineup. Joe batted .272 last year with 6 homeruns and 19 RBIs. He will look to anchor the lineup this season and provide some much needed pop.

Second basemen Steve Rven--Steve is a versatile player that can play multiple positions on the field. Last season he saw time at second base, shortstop, and third base. He batted .267 with 2 homeruns and 10 RBIs in 2016. Steve will look to provide some stability in the middle of the infield this season.

Third basemen Ryan Kemp--Ryan is a solid defender at third base and provides a good bat in the lineup. He batted .290 last year with 4 homeruns and 20 RBIs. Ryan will look to be a leader on both defense and offense for Alvernia this season.

Shortstop Sam Miller--Sam is a great all around player that does a little bit of everything for Alvernia. He batted .280 last year with 3 homeruns, 20 RBIs, and 10 stolen bases Sam will look to continue to be a key cog in the Alvernia machine this season.

Alvernia University Baseball Roster: The Outfield

The Alvernia University Baseball Team is set to have a great season this year. The team has been working hard in the off-season and they are ready to take their game to the next level. One of the areas that they have been focusing on is their outfield play. Here is a look at the Alvernia University Baseball team’s outfielders:

Matthew Aguirre – Senior
Hailing from San Antonio Texas, Matthew Aguirre is a senior outfielder for the Alvernia University baseball team A physical presence on the field, Aguirre is known for his strong arm and his ability to hit for power. He is a danger at the plate and he knows how to work a counts. Aguirre is also a solid defender and he will be counted on to make plays in the outfield this season.

Ryan Daugherty – Junior
A native of Emmaus, Pennsylvania, Ryan Daugherty is a junior outfielder for the Alvernia University baseball team Daugherty is a talented hitter who has a knack for getting on base. He also has some speed and he uses it well on the base paths. In the outfield, Daugherty covers a lot of ground and he has a good arm. He will be counted on to be one of the leaders of the outfield this season.

Garrett Gordon – Sophomore
A sophomore from Reading, Pennsylvania, Garrett Gordon is an outfielder for the Alvernia University Baseball Team Gordon is a versatile player who can play all three field positions He has good speed and he uses it well in the field and on the base paths. Gordon is also an excellent hitter and he knows how to work a counts. He will be counted on to be one of the leaders of the outfield this season.

Alvernia University Baseball roster The Pitchers

The Alvernia University baseball team is made up of pitchers who specialize in throwing the ball with speed and accuracy. The team is young, but talented, and looks to make a strong showing in the upcoming season

-RHP Jay rule: A native of Philadelphia, Rule is a sophomore who will be looking to make an impact on the team this year. He is a hard-throwing righty with a good fastball and excellent control.
-LHP Darren Murphy: Murphy is a junior from Scranton, PA. He is a tall, lanky lefty who relies on his deceptive delivery to confuse hitters. He has Good Stuff and is expected to be one of the team’s top pitchers this year.
-RHP Mike Reilly: Reilly is a senior from Sydney, Australia. He is a tall, imposing presence on the mound, and his fastball has been clocked at over 90 mph. He also has a strong slider that can be very effective when he’s on top of his game.
-LHP Tom Carlin: Carlin is a junior from Huntingdon Valley, PA. He rounds out the rotation with his good mix of pitches and solid command of the strike zone He doesn’t have overwhelming stuff, but he knows how to pitch and should be a reliable member of the staff this year.

Alvernia University Baseball Roster The Coaches

The current Head Coach of Alvernia University baseball is Jamie Shevchik. He is entering his 13th season as the program’s head coach in 2020. In his time at Alvernia, Coach Shevchik has racked up an impressive 463-271-1 (.631) record, making him the winningest coach in program history. He has led the Golden Wolves to eight conference championships, six NCAA Division III tournament appearances and one trip to the Division III World Series
