American Basketball League

The American Basketball League is an upstart Professional Basketball league that is scheduled to begin play in 2019. The league will be the first of its kind in North America and the first major pro sports league to utilize blockchain technology for player transactions. Experts say this is a sign of things to come for the future of professional sports leagues.

The ABL was formed in 1960 by George Steinbrenner, who later owned the New York Yankees and other businessmen with an interest in professional basketball [1] Steinbrenner, who was an owner of the Cleveland Pipers of the fledgling Professional Basketball League of America (PBLA), along with Arthur Henning owner of the Chicago Majors believed there was a market for another professional Basketball League espite early successes, including good attendance and television ratings, Steinbrenner lost interest in running a basketballd as he turned his attention to his shipping business and his Cleveland baseball team which he had just purchased.[2][3][4] In late 1961, Henning brought in Johnny Kerr as coach and made him General Manager Kerr had previously coached both Chicago Majors teams in the PBLA.
