Andover Hockey has a tradition of excellence dating back to its founding in 1885. Today, Andover is one of the premier hockey programs in the country, competing at the highest levels of the sport.

Andover hockey is a tradition of excellence dating back over a century. The program has produced numerous Olympians, NHL players and college standouts, and continues to be one of the premier high school hockey programs in the country.
Andover Hockey teams have won nine National Championships more than any other High School program in the nation. The team has also been runners-up six times, and has won numerous state and conference championships
Andover alumni have gone on to have great success at the collegiate and professional levels. Over two dozen Andover alumni have played in the NHL, including former Boston Bruins captain Ray Bourque and current Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews. Andover alum have also won Olympic gold medals including Toot Cahoon ’67, who was a member of the 1980 “Miracle on Ice” U.S. Olympic Hockey Team

The History of Andover Hockey
Andover hockey traces its origins back to the late 19th century, when the game was first introduced at Phillips Andover Academy. The sport quickly caught on among the student body, and soon became a staple of Andover life. In the early years, Andover teams played against other local schools, but by the turn of the century, they were regularly competing against some of the best teams in the country.
Andover hockey reached its apex in the 1920s and 1930s, when the team won six national championships. The program continued to be successful in the postwar era, winning another national title in 1954. But by the early 1970s, Andover hockey was in decline, and the team failed to qualify for the playoffs for seven straight years.
In 1986, a new Head Coach named JohnathanTyrell took over the program and quickly turned things around. Under his leadership, Andover won three more national championships and became perennial contenders for the title. Today, Andover hockey is once again one of the premier programs in the country, and its tradition of excellence shows no signs of slowing down.

Andover hockey teams have won nine Massachusetts State Championships most recently in 2016, and have been nationally ranked on multiple occasions. The program has produced numerous NHL players including Brian Leetch ’83, who is widely considered to be one of the greatest American-born hockey players of all time.
Today, Andover hockey is more than just a team; it’s a tradition. Every year, hundreds of young men don their Andover jerseys and take to the ice with the same goal in mind: to win. Andover Hockey has a long tradition of excellence, dating back to our founding in 1885. We are proud to be one of the oldest and most successful high school hockey programs in the country.
We have won a record 27 state championships more than any other high school in Massachusetts. We have also won 12 New England championships, and our teams have been ranked #1 in the nation on several occasions.
Our alumni include some of the most successful players in NHL history including DanyHeatley, Joe Thornton, and Brian Leetch. We are also proud to have produced dozens of NCAA Division I All-Americans and many Olympians.
We take great pride in our program and our tradition of success. We are committed to providing our student-athletes with the best possible experience and preparing them for success on and off the ice.
