The ASUN Conference began sponsoring men’s basketball in 1978. The first men’s Basketball Tournament was held in 1979, with Florida A&M winning the inaugural championship. From 1979 to 1985, the ASUN Conference men’s basketball tournament was a single-elimination format. In 1986, the conference switched to a double-elimination format, which remained in place until 1988.

In 1989, the conference reverted to a single-elimination format, which has been used ever since. The current tournament format features eight teams playing in four first-round games, four quarterfinal games, two semifinal games, and one Championship game

The eight teams that qualify for the ASUN Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament are seeded based on their regular season records. The highest seed receives a first-round bye and automatically advances to the quarterfinal round. The remaining seven teams play in the first round, with the four winners advancing to the quarterfinals.

The quarterfinal and semifinal rounds are played at neutral sites. The location of the Championship game is determined by an algorithm that takes into account several factors such as average attendance and geographic location.

In order to be eligible to participate in the ASUN Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament a team must have an overall winning percentage of .500 or better and must have played at least half of its Conference Schedule

The ASUN Menufffds Basketball Tournament will take place from March 5-9 at Libertyufffds Vines Center. The first round will see #8 North Florida take on #5 Kennesaw State while #7 Stetson plays #6 Jacksonville. On the other side of the bracket, #4 Liberty will battle #3 Lipscomb and #2 Florida Gulf Coast meets up with tournament-hosts #1 University of North Alabama The semifinals are set for Friday, March 8, with the Championship game taking place on Saturday, March 9 at 7:00 p.m.
