A&T basketball began in the early years of the 20th century. The first recorded game took place in 1902, when A&T played host to Guilford College. The game was played outdoors on a dirt court, and A&T won by a score of 1210.

The following year, the team went undefeated against conference opponents en route to winning the NCIAA championship; this marks the first championship won by any A&T athletics team. A&T basketball, also known as the Aggies, is a collegiate Basketball team that represents A&T State University in Greensboro, North Carolina The Aggies compete in the NCAA Division I men’s Basketball Tournament and are members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference The team last played in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament in 2021.

A&T has one National Championship in basketball. The team won the title in 1967, when they defeated the University of Detroit in the finals.

A&T has appeared in four NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournaments Their combined record is 04.

A&T Basketball: The Hall of Fame

A&T Basketball: The Hall of Fame is a letter written by James Naismith in 1937 to recognize the accomplishments of his former players at the University of Kansas The letter was published in the February 1938 issue of The Jayhawker, the university’s alumni magazine. In it, Naismith vents his frustration with the way basketball has changed since he invented the game, and he bemoans the fact that there is no formal mechanism for recognizing Great players and coaches. He also expresses his hope that someday there will be a “hall of fame” for basketball.

The letter was rediscovered in 2006 by David Coleman, then-director of athletics at A&T.
