He has been named Coach of the Year three times (2013, 2015, 2016) and led the team to its first Conference Championship and NCAA appearance in 2016.

Coach Barnett enters his fifth season at the helm of the Averett Baseball Program in 2020. He has compiled a 96-79 (.548) record at Averett, which includes three winning seasons, two 30+ win campaigns and an appearance in the 2018 USA South athletic conference Championship game In 2019, Barnett was voted by his peers as the USA South Athletic Conference Coach of the Year after leading the Cougars to their first ever appearance in an NCAA Regional Tournament He has coached six first team All-Conference performers, four second team honorees and two conference Players of the Year.
