Jim Thome

Jim Thome is one of the best baseball artists of our time. He is a five-time All-Star, two-time Silver Slugger Award winner, and he was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014. Thome was born and raised in Peoria, Illinois, and he played baseball at Illinois Central College before being drafted by the Cleveland Indians in 1989. He made his Major League debut in 1991, and he played for the Indians until 2002. Thome then played for the Philadelphia Phillies (2003-2005), Chicago White Sox (2006-2009), Los Angeles Dodgers (2009), Minnesota Twins (2010-2011), Baltimore Orioles (2012), and lastly, the Phillies again in 2012. He finished his 22-year career with 612 home runs which ranks seventh all-time. In addition to his many accomplishments on the field, Thome was also known for his charity work off the field. He founded the Peoria Professional baseball players Association in 1992, which raises money for needy children and families in central Illinois.

Clemente died tragically on December 31st, 1972 while attempting to deliver aid to earthquake victims in Nicaragua. He was just 38 years old. Willie Mays
