Baseball Hall of Famer Sandberg to be Honored
Chicago Cubs legend Ryne Sandberg will be honored with a statue outside of the team’s ballpark, Wrigley Field
Sandberg, who was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2005, played second base for the Cubs from 1982 to 1997. He is widely considered one of the best players in franchise history, and his number 23 has been retired by the team.
The statue will be unveiled on August 27, 2017, which is also “Ryne Sandberg Day” in the city of Chicago.
Sandberg to be Honored with Statue at Wrigley Field
Baseball Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg is set to be honored with a statue at Wrigley Field the Chicago Cubs announced Wednesday.
The statue, which will be located on the concourse behind home plate will be unveiled during a ceremony at the ballpark on Aug. 13.
Sandberg, who played for the Cubs from 1982 to 1997, was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2005. He is currently the manager of the Philadelphia Phillies
Sandberg to be Honored with Key to the City
Baseball Hall of Famer and Chicago Cubs legend Ryne Sandberg is set to be honored with the key to the city by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. The honor comes as part of a celebration of what would have been Sandberg’s 60th birthday.
Sandberg spent 16 seasons with the Cubs, 10 of them as the team’s captain. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2005.
In a statement, Emanuel said that “Ryne Sandberg is not only one of the greatest second basemen to ever play the game he is also one of the classiest people to ever wear a Cubs uniform.”
The ceremony is set to take place at Wrigley Field on Wednesday, September 23rd, before the Cubs take on the Pittsburgh Pirates
Sandberg to be Honored with Street Naming Ceremony
Sandberg, a Baseball Hall of Famer who played second base for the Chicago Cubs for 15 seasons, will be honored with a street naming ceremony on Aug. 13, the city of Chicago announced.
The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on the corner of Addison and Sheffield, where a section of Addison Street will be renamed “Sandberg Way.” The street is located near Wrigley Field the Cubs’ home ballpark.
Sandberg, 62, was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2005. He played for the Cubs from 1982 to 1997 and was a 10-time All-Star. He hit .285 with 282 home runs and 1,061 RBIs in his career.

CHICAGO – Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts will honor four Cub greats with days in their honor at Wrigley Field this season. On Saturday, May 27, the Cubs will celebrate “Ron Santo Day” and on Sunday, June 11, the team will pay tribute to “ Ernie Banks Day.”
Former Cubs manager and Baseball Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg will have his day at Wrigley Field on Saturday, August 11 when the Cubs host the Pittsburgh Pirates Prior to the game, there will be a special on-field ceremony to honor Sandberg. The first 10,000 fans in attendance will receive a replica jersey.

Baseball Hall of Famer and Chicago Cubs legend Ryne Sandberg is set to be honored with the Congressional gold medal the highest civilian award given by Congress.
Sandberg, who was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2005, played 16 seasons in the Major Leagues all with the Cubs. He is one of only two second basemen in baseball history to have won nine Gold Glove Awards and he was named National League MVP in 1984.
“Ryne Sandberg is a true American hero and a National Treasure ” said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. “His passion for baseball and commitment to his community are an inspiration to us all. I am proud to join my colleagues in honoring him with this well-deserved award.”
The Congressional Gold Medal will be presented to Sandberg at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., on October 29.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum today announced that Chicago Cubs legend Ryne Sandberg will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in July.
Sandberg, who played for the Cubs from 1982 to 1997, is one of the greatest second basemen in baseball history He was a 10-time All-Star, a nine-time Golden Glove winner, and he won the National League MVP Award in 1984.
Sandberg will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on July 29th, along with former Houston Astros star Craig Biggio and Former Seattle Mariners outfielder Ken Griffey Jr.
Sandberg to be Honored with Presidential Medal of Freedom

Sandberg, who was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2005, spent 16 seasons with the Cubs and is widely considered one of the greatest second basemen of all time. He is also credited with helping to turn around the Cubs franchise after years of futility.
The Medal of Freedom is awarded to individuals who have made “especially meritorious contributions to (1) the security or national interests of the United States or (2) world peace or (3) cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.”
Other recipients of the prestigious award include athletes like Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan as well as entertainment icons like Bob Dylan and Oprah Winfrey.
Sandberg to be Honored with Nobel Peace Prize
Sandberg, who is currently the head baseball coach at the University of California Berkeley, will be presented with the Nobel Peace Prize on Saturday in a ceremony at the university’s campus.
The honor comes as a result of Sandberg’s work in promoting peace and understanding between different cultures and religions. In addition to his coaching duties, Sandberg has also been active in promoting peace through his work with the Christian-Muslim Youth Forum and the Muslim-Jewish Conference.
“I am deeply honored to receive this award, and I am thankful for the recognition of my work,” said Sandberg in a statement. “I hope that this prize will help to bring attention to the importance of peace and understanding between different cultures and religions.”

Sandberg will be presented with the prestigious award at a ceremony in New York City on Monday. He is being recognized for his contributions to the Game of Baseball and his impact on the sport.
