Big 10 Basketball Power Rankings: The Top Ten Teams

It’s that time of the year again when the college Basketball season is in Full Swing and the Big 10 Conference is as deep and talented as ever. Here are my power rankings for the top ten teams in the conference.

Michigan State

1. Michigan State The Spartans are the clear top team in the conference. They have wins over Duke, Kansas, and Louisville.
2. Purdue: The Boilermakers have a quality win over Arizona and have only lost to Michigan State and Butler.
3. Wisconsin: The Badgers might be the most well-rounded team in the conference. They have a win over Marquette and their only losses are to Baylor and Virginia.
4. Maryland: The Terrapins have a good win against Syracuse and they only have losses to Connecticut and Oklahoma State
5. Iowa: The Hawkeyes’ only losses are to Ohio State and Xavier. They have a win over Pittsburgh.
6. Ohio State The Buckeyes’ only losses are to Maryland and Purdue. They have wins over Cincinnati and Villanova.
7. Michigan: The Wolverines’ only losses are to LSU and Indiana. They have wins over North Carolina and Purdue.
8. Nebraska: The Cornhuskers’ only losses are to Minnesota and Wisconsin . They have a win over Penn State .
9. Northwestern : The Wildcats ‘ only losses are to Notre Dame , Miami , Georgia Tech ,and Michigan . They don’t have any big wins .
10 Indiana : The Hoosiers ‘ only losses are to Arkansas , Butler , and Minnesota . They don’t have any big wins .

Purdue

1. Purdue- The Boilermakers are coming off a statement win over then-No. 3 Michigan State They have now won eight in a row and have established themselves as the class of the Big Ten

2. Maryland- The Terrapins are also riding high after a huge victory, this one over then-No. 5 Wisconsin. With that win, they have essentially locked up the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament

3. Michigan State Despite the loss to Purdue, the Spartans are still one of the best teams in the country. They will be a dangerous opponent in the NCAA tournament

4. Wisconsin- The Badgers have now lost two in a row and three of their last four games. They are still a good team, but they are no longer a great team.

5. Ohio State The Buckeyes got back on track with a win over Northwestern on Saturday night. They are still very much in contention for a top four finish in the Conference Standings

6. Iowa- The Hawkeyes continue to be one of the most consistent teams in the conference, although they did lose to Maryland on Saturday afternoon. They should be safe when it comes to NCAA Tournament selection Sunday night’s game against Nebraska will be key for their seeding though..

7# Nebraska- The Cornhuskers picked up a Big Win over Penn State on Saturday night to move to 19-9 on the season and 10-6 in conference play . With that win, they have now won four of their last five games and are looking like a team that could make some noise in March Madness ., 8# Northwestern-, 9# Illinois-, 10# Indiana

Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Badgers are currently the top team in the Big 10 Basketball Power Rankings They have a record of 20-3 and are 10-1 in conference play Wisconsin has been led by their star player Ethan Happ, who is averaging 17.4 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game The Badgers have also gotten contributions from Khalil Iverson (12.5 ppg) and Brevin Pritzl (10.1 ppg). Wisconsin has one of the best defenses in the country, as they are only allowing 60.8 points per game (5th in the nation). The Badgers have won 5 games in a row and are currently on a 9-game Winning Streak

Ohio State

1. Ohio State The Buckeyes are coming off a Big Win against then-ranked #4 Michigan State They have now won four games in a row and are looking like the team to beat in the Big 10.

2. Purdue- The Boilermakers have been one of the most consistent teams in the conference, winning eight of their last nine games.

3. Michigan- The Wolverines have been on a roll lately, winning six of their last seven games. They will be looking to continue their winning ways against Indiana on Thursday night

4. Wisconsin- The Badgers have won five of their last six games, with their only loss coming to Ohio State They will be looking to get back on track against Northwestern on Saturday.

5. Maryland- The Terrapins have won four of their last five games, with their only loss coming to Purdue. They will be looking to stay hot against Nebraska on Saturday.

6. Iowa- The Hawkeyes have won four of their last five games, but they are coming off a tough loss to Michigan State They will look to get back on track against Illinois on Saturday afternoon.

7. Nebraska- The Cornhuskers have been one of the most surprising teams in the conference, winning seven of their last eight games. They will look to continue their winning ways against Maryland on Saturday afternoon.

8. Northwestern- The Wildcats have won five of their last six games and are coming off a big win against then-ranked #5 Michigan State They will look to keep it going against Wisconsin on Saturday morning

Michigan

1. Michigan Wolverines
With losses to Ohio State and Indiana, the Wolverines have had a tough couple of weeks, but they’re still one of the top teams in the conference. Their defense is one of the best in the country, and they have a number of talented players on their roster.

2. Ohio State Buckeyes
The Buckeyes have been on a roll lately, winning four straight games. They have a strong defense and a balanced offense, led by junior guard C.J. Jackson.

3. Indiana Hoosiers
The Hoosiers have been one of the biggest surprise teams in the conference this season. They’ve won six straight games, and their offense is clicking on all cylinders right now. Senior guard Robert Johnson is averaging 17 points per game

4. Wisconsin Badgers
The Badgers are coming off two losses, but they’re still one of the top teams in the conference. Their defense is excellent, and they have a number of experienced players who know how to win big games.

5. Purdue Boilermakers
The Boilermakers are coming off a tough loss to Michigan State but they’re still one of the best teams in the conference. Their frontcourt is one of the best in the country, and they have a number of skilled players on their roster.

Iowa

10. Iowa (16-4, 6-3)

The Hawkeyes have had a bit of an up-and-down season, but they’ve been one of the more consistent teams in the Big Ten They’ve got a solid core of players, led by Peter Jok, and they’re a tough team to beat at home.

Nebraska

1. Nebraska – The Cornhuskers are always a tough team to beat and this year is no different. With a strong defense and a powerful offense, they are a force to be reckoned with.

2. Ohio State – The Buckeyes are another team that is always tough to beat. They have a lot of experience and always seem to find a way to win.

3. Michigan – The Wolverines are another team that is always tough to beat. They have a lot of experience and always seem to find a way to win.

4. Indiana – The Hoosiers are another team that is always tough to beat. They have a lot of experience and always seem to find a way to win.

Maryland

1. Maryland: The Terps are the consensus number one team in the nation and are coming off a strong performance in their season opener against Indiana.

2. Michigan State The Spartans are ranked second in the nation and are coming off a win against then-ranked Kansas.

3. Purdue: The Boilermakers are ranked third in the nation and are coming off a win against then-ranked Louisville.

4. Ohio State The Buckeyes are ranked fourth in the nation and are coming off a win against then-ranked Virginia.

5. Wisconsin: The Badgers are ranked fifth in the nation and are coming off a win against then-ranked Xavier.

6. Illinois: The Illini are ranked sixth in the nation and are coming off a win against then-ranked local rival Northwestern.

7. Iowa: The Hawkeyes are ranked seventh in the nation and are coming off a tough loss to then-ranked Kentucky.

8. Michigan: The Wolverines are ranked eighth in the nation and are coming off a hard-fought overtime loss to Oregon in their Season Opener

9. Minnesota: The Golden Gophers are ranked ninth in the nation and are coming off a convincing win against Then-ranked Butler.

Indiana

1. Indiana- The Hoosiers started off the season with a big win over then#3 Kentucky. They have good size and strength in the post with Cody Zeller and good outside scoring with Victor Oladipo They also have good bench players that can come in and score like Will Sheehey and Jordan Hulls. Their only loss was to Butler in a close game
2. Ohio State The Buckeyes have one of the best players in the country with Deshaun Thomas. They also haveAaron Craft who is one of the best Defensive Players in the country. They have good size inside with Amir Williams and Evan Ravenel. Their only losses were toDuke and Kansas early in the season.
3. Michigan- The Wolverines are led by freshman point guard Trey Burke who is one of the best players in the country. They also have good shooters like Tim Hardaway Jr., Nik Stauskas, and Glenn Robinson III Their big men Mitch McGary and Jon Horford, are good rebounders and shot blockers. Their only loss was to Charlotte early in the season.
4. Michigan State The Spartans are always a tough team to play against because of their defense led by Adreian Payne and Gary Harris. They also have good shooters like Keith Appling, Brandon Dawson,and Travis Trice coming off the bench. Their inside presence is not as strong as it has been in years past but they make up for it with their perimeter play

Penn State

The Nittany Lions are currently on a four-game winning streak with their most recent victory coming against then-No. 17 Purdue. Penn State is now 15-5 overall and 6-3 in the conference. They are currently tied for third place in the Big Ten with Maryland and one game behind Wisconsin and Michigan State The Nittany Lions have two road games remaining on their schedule and they will need to win both of them to have a chance at a double-bye in the conference tournament
