Who’s on Top?

With conference play in Full Swing it’s time to take a look at the latest Big XII baseball standings As of right now, Texas Tech is on top of the heap with a record of 10-5. They’re closely followed by Oklahoma State (9-5), TCU (9-6), and Baylor (8-7). Once again, it looks like the Big XII is going to be one of the toughest conferences in college baseball this year.

So far, Texas Tech has been led by their pitching staff, which has been anchored by junior left-hander Steven Gingery. Gingery has been nothing short of phenomenal this season, posting a perfect 8-0 record with a 1.58 ERA in 55.2 innings pitched He’s also struck out an impressive 69 batters while only walking 12. If he can keep up this type of production, Texas Tech will be tough to beat.

Oklahoma State has also been getting great pitching from their starters, as they currently boast the best team ERA in the conference at 3.21. Their offense has been solid as well, led by sophomore infielder Andrew Navigato. Navigato is hitting .333/.426/.593 with 4 home runs and 15 RBI so far this season. If the Cowboys can keep up this level of play, they’ll be in contention for the conference title all season long

TCU has been a bit of a surprise so far this season, as they were picked to finish near the bottom of the conference in most preseason predictions. However, they’ve shown that they can hang with the best teams in the conference thanks to some strong pitching from freshman right-hander Nick Lodolo and junior right-hander Sean Wymer. Lodolo has posted a 5-1 record with a 2.16 ERA in 50 innings pitched, while Wymer has gone 4-2 with a 2.45 ERA in 49 innings pitched. If they can keep up their strong play on the mound, TCU will be a team to watch out for down the stretch.

Baylor rounds out the top four teams in the Conference Standings at 8-7 overall and 3-2 in conference play The Bears have been led by their offense so far this season, as they currently rank second in the conference in runs scored per game at 7.36. Junior infielder Davion Downey has been leading the way for Baylor offensively, hitting .386/.486/.667 with 4 home runs and 19 RBI so far this year. If Downey and company can keep putting up runs at this clip, Baylor will be tough to beat on any given day.
