The top four seeds in the tournament are Oklahoma, Texas Tech TCU, and Baylor. Oklahoma is the defending Big12 champion and has won four straight conference titles. Baylor round out the top four seeds, but they have struggled down the stretch, losing eight of their last 12 games.

Kansas State is led by preseason All-American pitcher Levi MaVorhis and could be a tough out in the tournament. West Virginia has been one of the biggest surprise teams in college baseball this season and they come into the tournament red-hot, winning nine of their last 10 games. (5) TCU vs. (12) Texas Tech

(7) Kansas vs. (10) West Virginia

(8) Texas vs. (9) Iowa State

Predictions:

TCU will beat Texas Tech in the first round of the tournament. TCU has a strong pitching staff and should be able to contain the Texas Tech offense. Oklahoma will beat Baylor in the second game of the day. Oklahoma has been hot as of late, winning eight of their last ten games. Kansas will beat West Virginia in the third game of the day. Kansas has a strong lineup and should be able to score some runs against West Virginia pitching. Lastly, Texas will beat Iowa State in the fourth and final game of the day. Texas has struggled as of late, but they have a strong pitching staff that should be able to lead them to victory.

A preview of the second round of the Big12 Baseball Tournament

In the second round of the Big12 Baseball Tournament the top-seeded Texas Longhorns will take on the TCU Horned Frogs The Longhorns are coming off a regular season in which they went 20-5 in conference play and 32-9 overall. The Horned Frogs went 15-10 in conference play and 27-12 overall. The game will be played Friday, May 25 at 11 AM CT at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

The Longhorns are one of the hottest teams in baseball entering the tournament, having won 10 of their last 12 games. Their offense is led by utility player Masen Hibbeler, who is hitting .404 with 36 RBIs on the season. Their pitching staff is anchored by ace Cy Sneed, who has a 6-1 record with a 2.91 ERA.

The Horned Frogs have struggled down the stretch, losing 7 of their last 10 games. They will need to rely on their top two hitters in the lineup, Jake Guenther and Trey Morris, to provide some firepower against the Longhorns pitching staff. On the mound, they will look to freshman right-hander Sean Mooney to keep them in the game against Texas.

It should be a good matchup between two evenly matched teams, but ultimately I think Texas has too much firepower on offense and too much experience on pitching staff for TCU to handle. I’m predicting a 5-2 victory for the Longhorns.

Baylor is no slouch either though. They finished the regular season with a record of 37-19 and their offense is very good as well.
