Since joining the ACC in 2004, the Virginia Tech Baseball team has seen a resurgence under the leadership of Head Coach John Szefc. A former Assistant Coach at Maryland, Szefc took over the helm of the Hokies in 2013 and has led them to four NCAA tournament appearances in six years.

Szefc is joined on the coaching staff by associate Head coach Bill Ferriter and assistant coaches Link Jarrett and Brad Marques. Under their guidance, the Hokies have compiled a 243-162 (.599) record and have won four ACC Coastal Division titles.

The Team’s Facilities

The Virginia Tech Baseball Team plays its home games at English Field at Union Park, which is located on the university’s campus in Blacksburg, Virginia. The field is named after former Tech baseball coach Charlie English, who led the team to 14 NCAA Tournament appearances and four College World Series berths during his 24-year tenure. The facility underwent a $2.5 million renovation prior to the start of the 2019 season, which added improvements such as a new artificial turf surface, an expanded press box, and new dugouts and bullpens.

Despite being one of the smaller venues in the ACC, English Field has been a tough place for opposing teams to play over the years, as evidenced by Tech’s all-time home record of 1,004-471-5 (.681). The Hokies have particularly excelled in recent years, posting a home record of 85-37 (.698) since 2015.
