The History of Bishop Lynch Basketball

Bishop Lynch basketball is a tradition of excellence that dates back to the early days of the school. Under the direction of legendary coach Joe Paterno, Bishop Lynch teams won 5 State Championships in a 7 year span. In recent years Bishop Lynch has continued to field competitive teams, making deep runs in the playoffs on a regular basis. The Bishop Lynch Basketball Program is one of the most successful in Texas history, and shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.

The Tradition of Excellence

Bishop Lynch basketball is a tradition of excellence. The program has produced some of the best players in the country, and the team has consistently been one of the top programs in the nation. The team has won multiple National Championships and the players have beennamed to numerous All-American teams. The tradition of excellence continues today, as the team is ranked in the top 25 in the nation. The team is led by Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski who is one of the winningest coaches in college basketball history. Coach K has won five national championships, and he has coached Bishop Lynch to nine Final Fours. The team is also led by Assistant Coach Jeff Capel, who is one of the top recruits in the nation. With a tradition of excellence, Bishop Lynch basketball is a program that you can be proud to support.

The Coaches

The tradition of excellence that is Bishop Lynch Basketball begins with the Coaching Staff
Since the founding of the school in 1963, Bishop Lynch has had just five head coaches – all of which have led the team to the playoffs. In fact, the Friars have only missed the postseason five times in their 56-year history.

The current head coach is Steve Kohn, who took over the program in 2006. Coach Kohn has continued the winning tradition leading the Friars to nine playoff appearances in his 14 seasons at the helm.

Under Kohn’s leadership, Bishop Lynch has won six district championships and made two trips to the State Tournament including a historic run to the state semifinals in 2016.

The Rivalries

Bishop Lynch has a long tradition of excellence on the basketball court The school has produced some of the finest players in the country, and the team has enjoyed success at the highest levels of competition.

The Friars have developed a number of rivalries over the years, most notably with Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas, Cistercian Preparatory School, and St. Mark’s School of Texas. These three schools have played each other countless times in heated battles that have often decided conference championships and playoff seeding.

The games between Bishop Lynch and Jesuit are always highly anticipated affairs, as the two teams have been among the best in the state for many years. The rivalry began in earnest when Jesuit joined Bishop Lynch in District 9-5A in 2012, creating a realignment that ensured that the two teams would play each other twice each season.

Since then, the games between these two powerhouses have been some of the most thrilling and hotly contested contests in all of High School basketball. Each meeting is an opportunity for either team to claim bragging rights and district supremacy.

The rivalry between Bishop Lynch and Cistercian is one that dates back to when both schools were members of TAPPS District 1-6A. The two teams met several times each season in what was often a battle for first place in the district standings.

While neither team has been as dominant in recent years the games between these two corridore rivals are still hotly contested affairs with plenty at stake for both sides.

St. Mark’s has long been one of Bishop Lynch’s chief rivals on the hardwood. The two schools are located just five miles apart and share a rich history dating back to their founding in 1969.

The games between these two teams are always highly emotional affairs, as both sides feel they have something to prove to their neighbors. The games are also typically very physical contests, as both teams are known for their tough defense and rebounding prowess.
