The team got its start in the late 1800s, when a group of local businessmen decided to start a baseball team They named the team after one of their most successful businesses, Blaine’s department store. Blaine baseball has a rich history dating back to the 1960s. In 1963, the Blaine high school baseball team won the first of its five State Championships The team was led by future Major League baseball player Greg Gagne Gagne went on to have an illustrious career with the Minnesota Twins winning two World Series titles.
Since then, Blaine has been one of the most successful High School baseball programs in Minnesota, winning State Championships in 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, and 1972. In addition to its five state titles, Blaine has also won nine conference championships and made five appearances in the Minnesota State Tournament
Over the years, dozens of Blaine baseball players have gone on to play professional baseball including current Major Leaguers Joe Mauer and Glen Perkins. Mauer, who was drafted first overall by the Twins in 2001, is a six-time All-Star and three-time batting champion. Perkins is a two-time All-Star who currently serves as the Twins’ closer.
Today, the Blaine Baseball tradition continues with a new generation of players.
