After graduating from Michigan, Durkin began his professional career with the NBA’s Detroit Pistons However, his time with the Pistons was short-lived; he was traded to the Chicago Bulls just months into his rookie season. Durkin spent two seasons with the Bulls before being traded once again, this time to the Boston Celtics
Durkin spent just one season with the Celtics before suffering a devastating injury that ended his career. In February of 2008, he tore his Achilles tendon while playing against the New Jersey Nets The injury ended his season and ultimately led to his retirement from basketball altogether.
Bobby Durkin’s Sudden death came as a shock to everyone who knew him. He passed away in his sleep on May 20th, 2008, just days after his 23rd birthday. The cause of death is still unknown; however, it is believed thatDurkin may have died as a result of complications from his previous Achilles injury.
