The History of Colgate Baseball
Colgate baseball is a Division I program that competes in the Patriot League The team is based in Hamilton, New York, and plays its home games at Messa Rink. The program has been in existence for over 100 years, and has seen a recent resurgence in recent years
The program was founded in 1913, and played its first game against Syracuse University The team finished its inaugural season with a record of 5-5. In subsequent years, the team would go on to play against other schools in the Northeast region, such as Cornell University and Yale University.
The team experienced success in the early years of the program, winning the Patriot League championship in 1917 and 1918. The team also had several players who went on to have successful professional careers, such as Fred Merkle and Hank Greenberg
However, the program began to decline in the mid-20th century, and by the 1980s the team was only playing a handful of games each season. In 1988, Colgate announced that it was discontinuing the baseball program due to budget cuts.
However, a group of alumni and supporters rallied to save the program, and by 1990 they had raised enough money to reinstate the team. Since then, Colgate baseball has been on the rise, posting winning records in 17 of the last 20 seasons. The team has also made several appearances in the NCAA Tournament
Looking to continue its upward trajectory, Colgate baseball is poised for another Successful Season in 2019!

The school is located in a small town in Upstate New York and its facilities are not on par with some of the bigger schools in Division I. It may take some time for Colgate to reach that level, but there is no doubt that the program is heading in the right direction.

The Colgate Baseball Rivalries
Colgate baseball has several heated rivals, most notably Lafayette and Lehigh. These schools have a long-standing history with each other, dating back to when they were all part of the Patriot League. The competition between these three schools is intense, and the games are always highly anticipated. In recent years, Colgate has had the upper hand in these rivalry games, but that doesn’t make them any less exciting.
The Colgate Baseball Fans
It’s been said that the fans are what make college baseball so special. And no fan base has been more supportive of its team than the Colgate baseball fans From selling out Hamilton College’s Doubleday Field to packing Lake George’s Rogers Park, the Colgate baseball fans have shown up in droves to support their team.
But it’s not just about showing up to games. The Colgate baseball fans have also played a big role in helping to raise money for the program.
