There are a lot of movement in the latest Colorado high school Basketball Rankings In the 5A boys rankings, Denver East and Montbello move up to Nos. 2 and 3, respectively, after former No. 2 Grandview lost to Highlands Ranch last week. Valley moves up to No. 4 after beating Denver West, while Rangeview falls to No. 5 after a loss to Eaglecrest. In the 5A girls rankings, Fossil Ridge remains No. 1 after beating Loveland last week, but Regis Jesuit and Chaparral both move up to Nos. 2 and 3, respectively. Cherry Creek falls to No. 4 after a loss to Arapahoe, while Dakota Ridge moves up to No. 5 with a win over Chatfield.

As the season progresses, certain games become must-see TV for Colorado high school basketball fans Here are three of the most exciting games of the season so far:
1. Denver East vs. George Washington – These two teams met in the Championship game last year, with Denver East coming out on top. This matchup is always exciting, and it should be even more so this year with both teams currently ranked in the top five.
2. Regis Jesuit vs. Sierra – Regis Jesuit is currently the top-ranked team in the state, but Sierra is not far behind at number five. This should be a close and exciting game between two of the best teams in Colorado.
3. Chatfield vs. Columbine – These two teams are currently ranked in the top ten and they are both always tough to beat at home. This should be a great game between two evenly matched teams.
The most surprising results of the season
As the regular season comes to a close, many of Colorado’s high school basketball teams are scrambling to position themselves for a spot in the State Tournament With so much on the line, there have been some surprising results in recent weeks.
In Class 5A, for example, #3 Regis Jesuit shocked #2 Mullen with a last-second victory on February 3. That loss dropped Mullen to fourth in the latest rankings, while Regis Jesuit moved up to second.
Similarly, in Class 4A, #5 Pueblo West knocked off #1 Discovery Canyon on February 1. Discovery Canyon tumbled all the way down to seventh in the latest rankings as a result.
Finally, in Class 3A, #4 Durango upset #1 Vanguard on January 31. Vanguard managed to hang on to the top spot in the rankings, but Durango’s victory gave them a big boost heading into the final weeks of the season.
The teams that improved the most this season
Each year, a few teams make surprising runs deep into the State Tournament This season was no different, with several squads coming out of nowhere to make a name for themselves. Here are the teams that improved the most from last season, according to our ranking system
5A
0) Loveland – Loveland made perhaps the biggest jump of any team in the state, moving up 23 spots in our rankings. The Indians were solid defensively all season, allowing just over 50 points per game
4A
0) Pueblo West – The Cyclones jumped 21 spots in our rankings after finishing last season with just nine wins. Pueblo West turned things around this year, winning 23 games and making it all the way to the quarterfinals of the state tournament
3A
0) Manitou Springs – Manitou Springs was one of the most improved teams in 3A, moving up 19 spots in our rankings. The Mustangs had a strong showing at the state tournament losing in the quarterfinals to eventual champion Trinity.

A look ahead to next season
The basketball season may be over, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t already excitement building for next year. With that in mind, here is an early look at the top 10 teams in the state, regardless of classification, heading into the 2019-20 season
1. Denver East (25-1)
Led by star point guard George Washington commit Daylen Kountz, the Angels will be looking to build on a historic 2018-19 campaign in which they won their first state title since 1916.
2. Eaglecrest (23-4)
The Raptors return four of their five starters from a team that reached the Class 5A semifinals last season, including Mr. Basketball finalist Isaac Johnson.
3. Lewis-Palmer (24-2)
The Rangers will have one of the state’s best backcourts next season with senior Aiden Barta and junior Camden Barker leading the way. They will also have Nebraska commit Sami Dagher in the frontcourt.
4. Sierra (23-4)
The Stallions bring back a deep and experienced team that includes three seniors who have committed to Division I programs: Christian Cruz (CSU), Elijah Johnson (Wyoming) and Isaiah signer (UNC-Greensboro).
5. Cherry Creek (19-7)
