The Delta State University baseball team has announced its roster for the upcoming season The team will consist of 28 players, including 21 freshmen and seven upperclassmen. The roster includes 24 pitchers, three catchers, and six infielders.

Notable players on the roster include pitcher Jake Dettling, who was named GSC Freshman of the Year last season, and infielder AJ Owens, who was named a Second Team All-American. The team will be led by Head Coach Mike Kinnison, who is entering his sixth season with the Statesmen.

The team will open its season on February 2nd with a three-game series against West Alabama.

Delta State head baseball coach Mike Kinnison announced the Statesmen roster for the 2019 season. The team will feature 28 student-athletes, including 20 returners from last year’s squad.

“We are excited about the group of guys we have coming back,” said Kinnison. “We have a lot of experience and leadership returning, and we are looking forward to getting started.”

The Statesmen will open the 2019 season on February 1 with a three-game series at Shorter. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.

The Statesmen will be led by seniors Cale Elam, Colton Pate, and Hess Wicker. Elam, a left-handed pitcher, was named First Team All-GSC last season after posting a 9-2 record with a 2.38 ERA. Pate, an infielder, was second on the team in batting average (.321) and home runs (7) last season. Wicker, an outfielder/pitcher, was third on the team in batting average (.309) and led the team in stolen bases (14).

Other key returnees include junior pitcher Chase King (6-3, 3.86 ERA) and sophomore infielder Tanner White (team-high .333 batting average).
