The Pitchers

There are many different types of pitchers, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. The pitcher’s job is to get the batter out, and they use a variety of pitches to do so. Here is a list of the different types of pitchers you may see on a Baseball roster

Starting Pitcher: The starting pitcher is the pitcher who begins the game for their team. They are typically one of the best pitchers on the team and will pitch for several innings, unless they get tired or start to give up runs.

Relief Pitcher: Relief pitchers are brought in when the starting pitcher gets tired or starts to give up runs. They typically only pitch for a few innings at most.

Closer: The closer is the best relief pitcher on the team. They are brought in during crucial situations, typically in the last inning of the game, when their team is ahead by a small margin.

The Catchers

The Catchers
Eddie Rodriguez – Senior
Jorge Rodriguez – Freshman
Gabriel Saiz – Freshman

The Infielders

The infield of a baseball team consists of four positions: first baseman, second baseman, third baseman and shortstop. A fifth infielder, the catcher, also has a role in the game but is not considered part of the infield. Can you name all five?

The first baseman is responsible for the area on the first Base Line and around first base. The first baseman must be able to catch throws from the other infielders and make accurate throws to second or third base.

The second baseman covers the area to the right of second base. The second baseman must be able to make quick decisions on whether to try to throw out a runner at first or second base. They also need to make accurate throws to first base.

The third baseman covers the area to the left of third base. The third baseman needs to have a strong arm to make throws out to first base. They also need to be able to field balls hit hard down the third base line

The shortstop covers the area between second and third base. The shortstop must have a strong arm to make throws out to first or second base. They also need good fielding skills to field balls hit in their direction.

The catcher is responsible for catching pitches thrown by the pitcher and throwing out runners who try to steal bases.

The Outfielders

The outfielders are Sam Hilliard, Charlie Blackmon, David Dahl, Ian Desmond, and Raimel Tapia.
