Since its inception in 1946, the National Basketball Association has been home to some of the greatest athletes in the world. In honor of the league’s 75th anniversary, ESPN is counting down the 75 best players in NBA history

To create this list, we consulted with a panel of 50 basketball experts from around the world. We asked them to rate players on a 0-to-10 scale, taking into account both their peak performance and their career value. We also asked them to consider players’ longevity, offensive production, defensive contribution, playoff success and impact on team culture.

The end result is ESPN’s NBA 75: The Best of the Best — a comprehensive ranking of the greatest players in league history.

The players who didn’t make the cut

The ESPN NBA 75 is a countdown of the top 75 players in the NBA. It was compiled by a panel of experts and released in December of 2019.

There were a few notables who didn’t make the cut, including:
--Danny Green A key player on the NBA Champion Toronto Raptors Green was left off the list due to his lack of consistent scoring.
-Dennis Schroder: The German point guard had a breakout season for the Oklahoma City Thunder but was ultimately passed over in favor of other point guards like Russell Westbrook and Kyrie Irving
--Jrue Holiday Holiday is one of the best Defensive Players in the league, but his struggles on offense keep him from being considered one of the top 75 players.

Since the inception of the National Basketball Association in 1946, there have been many incredible moments that have captivated fans around the world. In honor of the league’s 75th anniversary, ESPN has compiled a list of what they believe to be the 75 greatest moments in NBA history

To narrow down their choices, ESPN reached out to a panel of experts that included current and former players, coaches, media members and historians. They then solicited votes from sports fans around the globe to help determine the final list.

The 75 moments that made the cut span nearly seven decades, from George Mikan’s domination in the early days of the league to Magic Johnson’s “baby hook” in Game 4 of the 1980 NBA Finals all the way to LeBron James’ miraculous block in Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals
