A Quick Rundown of the Roster

The Florida State Seminoles men’s basketball team represents Florida State University (variously Florida State or FSU) in the intercollegiate sport of basketball. The Seminoles compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I and the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).

They are currently led by Head Coach Leonard Hamilton, and play their home games at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center on the university’s Tallahassee, Florida campus.

The Seminoles have appeared in the NCAA Division I tournament seventeen times, advanced to eleven Sweet Sixteens, and one Elite Eight. Their lone Final Four appearance was in 1972, when they lost to UCLA 53–71. As of 2017, they have not appeared in a Final Four since 1972. Consequently, Florida State currently shares the record for longest NCAA Division I Final Four drought among non–Final Four teams at 45 years with George Mason and Wyoming; both schools last made an appearance in 1971.

The Seminoles will have a new-look starting lineup this season after losing their top three scorers from last year’s team. Here’s a look at the players who are expected to start for Florida State this season:

1. PG: Trent Forrest – A 6’4″ sophomore from Pace, Florida, Forrest is the Seminoles’ best all-around player. He averaged 8.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game last season and shot 42 percent from three-point range He’ll be asked to do even more this season as the Seminoles’ go-to guy on offense.

2. SG: P.J. Savoy – A 6’5″ junior from Orlando, Savoy is a streaky shooter who averaged 7.7 points per game last season while shooting 37 percent from three-point range. He’ll need to be more consistent this season if the Seminoles are going to make a run at the NCAA tournament

3. SF: Mfiondu Kabengele – A 6’10” freshman from Toronto, Canada, Kabengele is one of the most highly-touted recruits in Florida State history. He’s an elite athlete with a 7’3″ wingspan and has the potential to be a star at the collegiate level. Expect him to make an immediate impact on both ends of the court for the Seminoles this season.

4.. PF: Phil Cofer – A 6’8″ senior from Moultrie, Georgia, Cofer is the Seminoles’ only returning starter from last season’s team. He averaged 10/5 points and five rebounds per game last year and will be counted on to provide leadership for this young Florida State team..
5.. C: Christ Koumadje – A 7’4″ junior from Benin City, Nigeria, Koumadje is one of the tallest players in college basketball and provides a big presence in the paint for the Seminoles.. He averaged 2./8 points and two blocks per game last season and will look to improve those numbers this year..

The Bench Players

In any good Basketball team the bench players are just as important as the starters. They provide relief when the starters need a break and they bring fresh energy to the game. The Florida State Seminoles basketball team is no exception. Here is a look at some of the key bench players who help make the Seminoles a force to be reckoned with.

-P.J. Savoy: A sophomore guard from Orlando, Florida, Savoy is one of the top three-point shooters in the country. He provides a spark off the bench with his shooting and his ability to drive to the basket.

-MJ Walker: A freshman guard from Jonesboro, Georgia, Walker is a versatile player who can play both guard and forward. He is a good shooter and an excellent defender. He provides a lot of energy when he comes into the game.

-Cofer Black: A senior forward from Tallahassee, Florida, Black is a strong inside presence who can score and rebound. He gives the Seminoles a big body to put in when they need some size on the court.

The Coaches

Though the 2020-2021 Season will look different from any other in recent memory, one thing remains the same: the Florida State Seminoles men’s basketball team is ready to compete. This year’s squad is coached by Leonard Hamilton, who is in his 19th season with the team. He is joined by his Assistant coaches Mike Schrage, Stan Jones, and Charlton Young.

The Seminoles will have a young team this season, with only two seniors on the roster. But don’t let that fool you – this group is talented and has the potential to make some noise in the ACC.

Redshirt sophomore RaiQuan Gray will be one to Watch This Season The 6’8″ forward was a key player off the bench last year, averaging 6.6 points and 4.5 rebounds per game He will be looked to for leadership this season as he takes on a bigger role.

Junior Devin Vassell is another player to keep an eye on. The 6’6″ guard/forward was one of the top recruits in the country coming out of High School and he did not disappoint as a freshman, averaging 9.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game while shooting 41% from three-point range. He has all the skills to be a star at the college level and could be in line for a breakout season.

The 2020-21 college Basketball season will be unlike any other, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be plenty of storylines to follow. There will be a host of talented players suiting up for new teams, as well as some veteran squad looking to make a run at the title. Here’s a look at the Florida State Basketball Roster for the upcoming season

Gone are last year’s leading scorers Terance Mann and Mfiondu Kabengele, but the Seminoles do return a solid core of players led by junior guard Trent Forrest. The 6-foot-5 Forrest is coming off a season in which he averaged 11.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game He’ll be joined in the backcourt by junior Anthony Polite and senior RaiQuan Gray.

In the frontcourt, Florida State will be relying on junior RaiQuan Gray and sophomore Balsa Koprivica to provide a spark. Gray averaged 10.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game last season while Koprivica is coming off a freshman campaign in which he averaged 7.1 points and 4 rebounds per game.

The Seminoles will also have a pair of newcomers that should make an immediate impact in freshman guard Scottie Barnes and freshman forward Malik Osborne. Barnes was rated as a five-star recruit by ESPN while Osborne comes to Tallahassee after spending last season at IMG Academy
