As the school year comes to an end, the boys’ basketball team at Hamilton Heights Christian Academy (HHCA) are having the time of their lives. Not only are they two-time State Champions but they’re also nationally ranked and have won 85 percent of their games over the last three years.
But for Head Coach Zach Ferrell and his staff, that’s not enough. They want more for their players – not just on the court, but in life. So when an opportunity to take their team on a life-changing trip to China presented itself, they jumped at the chance.
For 10 days in August, the Flying Tigers will be playing against some of the best competition in Asia while also getting a once-in-a-lifetime cultural experience. They’ll visit Beijing, Shanghai and Nanjing – three of China’s biggest cities – and get to see first-hand what life is like in a country that’s vastly different from their own.
It’s an ambitious undertaking, but one that Ferrell is confident will be worth it for his players. “This is an opportunity for our guys to grow as people and as basketball players ” he said. “We want them to come back from this trip as better men.”
