Picking the Right Players

Picking the right players is essential to the success of any baseball team The roster must be carefully considered in order to create a winning team There are a few key things to look for when choosing players for your team.

First, you need to find players who are committed to the sport. They should be passionate about playing and be willing to work hard to improve their skills. Players who are not committed to the sport will quickly become discouraged and may give up on the team altogether.

Second, you need to find players who have the ability to play well together. The best teams are those that have players who work well together and support each other on and off the field. Players who cannot get along with others will cause tension on the team and may eventually lead to infighting.

Third, you need to find players who are physically fit Baseball is a notoriously physical sport, and player injuries are common. Players who are not in good physical condition are more likely to get injured and may miss important games as a result. Chooseplayers who take care of their bodies and eat healthy diets so that they can stay in top physical condition throughout the season.

Fourth, you need to find players who have strong Mental Game skills. Baseball requires split-second decisions and quick reflexes. Players who cannot focus or handle pressure well will struggle in this sport. Choose players who have strong Mental Game skills so that they can perform at their best when it matters most.

Finally, you need to find players who fit into your team’s budget. Baseball can be an expensive sport, so it is important to find players who fit into your team’s budget so that you can afford to keep them on the roster for years to come. Keep in mind that some of the best players may not be affordable, so be willing to compromise in order to get a competitive team that you can afford over time.

The Must-Haves

Every team has their own specific must-haves. For the GCU baseball team these are the three player types that are vital to the team’s success.

1. The Power Hitter

The power hitter is the player that can hit the Long Ball They are typically bigger and stronger than the other players on the team and can drive the ball deep into the outfield. This type of player is important because they can score runs with one swing of the bat and change the momentum of a game.

2. The Pitcher

Pitching is one of the most important aspects of baseball and a good pitcher can be the difference between winning and losing. The pitcher is responsible for Throwing strikes and getting batters out. They need to have good control and be able to throw different types of pitches in order to be successful. A good pitcher can make all the difference in a close game

3. The fielder

Fielding is another important aspect of baseball. A good fielder can save runs with their glove work and prevent extra base hits with their arm. They need to be quick and have good range in order to be successful. A good fielder can help a pitcher out by making plays behind them and keeping them from giving up runs.

The Pitching Rotation

It’s no secret that pitching is the most important part of any Baseball Team A strong pitching rotation can take a team far, even if the offense isn’t clicking on all cylinders. The same can be said for the Grand Canyon University baseball team

This season, the GCU pitching rotation is anchored by three senior starters: right-hander Zachary Bantes, left-hander Jacob Ayala and right-hander Levi MaVorhis. All three have been key contributors to the team over the past few seasons and will look to finish their collegiate careers on a high note.

Bantes has been GCU’s ace for the past two seasons, posting a combined record of 18-6 with a 3.34 ERA. He was named first-team All-WAC in 2018 after going 10-3 with a 2.86 ERA in 16 starts. Bantes is currently projected to be GCU’s Friday Night starter and will look to lead the team to its third consecutive conference title

Ayala has been a staple in GCU’s starting rotation since his freshman year, compiling a career record of 14-12 with a 4.43 ERA in 42 appearances (32 starts). He was named second-team All-WAC last season after going 6-5 with a 4.11 ERA in 16 starts. Ayala will likely be GCU’s Saturday starter this season and will provide experienced leadership to a young pitching staff.

MaVorhis rounds out GCU’s senior trio of starters. He has struggled with injuries throughout his career but has shown glimpses of potential when healthy. In 2017, he was named WAC Pitcher of the Week after throwing eight innings of one-run ball against USC Upstate MaVorhis will look to stay healthy this season and provide valuable depth to GCU’s pitching staff

The Fielding Lineup

The heart of any Baseball team is its fielding lineup. These are the players who take the field day in and day out and who are responsible for keeping the other team from scoring runs. A good fielding lineup will have a mix of players with different strengths and abilities, so that the team can make the most of its talent.

Here is a rundown of the must-have positions on a GCU baseball team

Catcher: The catcher is responsible for catching the ball when the pitcher throws it, and for throwing it back to the infield when a runner is trying to steal a base. They also help to direct the pitcher on what type of pitch to throw. A good catcher will have quick reflexes and a strong arm.

First baseman: The first baseman’s job is to catch the ball when it is hit by the batter, and to throw it to second base or third base if there is a runner on those bases. They also have to try to stop runners from stealing second or third base. A good first baseman will have quick reflexes and be able to stretch out to catch balls that are hit far from them.

Second baseman: The second baseman’s job is similar to the first baseman’s, except that they play closer to second base. They also have to turn double plays, which means they have to catch the ball and then quickly throw it to first base before the runner gets there. A good second baseman will be quick and have a strong arm.

Third baseman: The third baseman’s job is similar to the first and second baseman’s, except that they play closer to third base. They also have to try to stop runners from stealing home plate A good third baseman will be quick and have a strong arm.

Shortstop: The shortstop’s job is similar to the second baseman’s, except that they play closer to second base than third base. They also have to turn double plays, which means they have quickly throw the ball from deep in the infield back up to first base before A good shortstop will be very quick and have an accurate arm. Outfielders: Outfielders are responsible for catching fly balls that are hit by batters into their part of the field. They also have tryto throw out runners who are trying advance extra bases by hitting fly balls into their part of outfield grass.. Good outfielders will be quick runners with strong throwing arms

The Catcher

There are nine positions in baseball, but none more important than the catcher. The catcher is like the quarterback of the team. They control the game and make sure everyone is in the right position. without a good catcher, a team will not be successful.

A good catcher must have a few key qualities: they must be intelligent, have a strong arm, and be able to work well with the pitchers. They must also be able to hit for power and average.

The catcher is one of the most important members of a baseball team and if you want to be successful, you need to make sure you have a good one on your roster.

The Infield

The infield is the soul of any Baseball Team – these are the players that control the game and set the tempo. A good infield can make or break a team, so it’s important to have a strong lineup. Here are the must-haves for any successful GCU baseball roster

-First baseman: The first baseman is the leader of the infield and is responsible for fielding balls hit in their direction. They need to have good vision and be able to read the ball well, as they often need to make quick decisions on whether to throw to another player or hold on to the ball themselves.

-Second baseman: The second baseman needs to be quick on their feet and have good reflexes, as they’re often required to make quick throws to first base. They also need to be able to communicate well with the other infielders, as they’re often responsible for relaying signals.

-Third baseman: The third baseman needs to have a strong arm, as they’re responsible for throwing out runners who try to steal bases. They also need to be able to field balls hit in their direction and make quick decisions on whether to throw to another player or hold on to the ball themselves.

-Shortstop: The shortstop is responsible for field balls hit in their direction and making quick throws to first base. They also need good communication skills, as they often need to relay signals from the catcher or other players up the field.

The Outfield

The outfield is often where the most exciting Plays in Baseball happen. From home runs to diving catches the outfield is always full of action. For that reason, it’s important to have a strong outfield. The following are the must-haves for any competitive baseball team

Speed – Having outfielder with speed is important because it allows you to cover more ground and make up for any mistakes that are made in the infield.

Arm Strength – One of the biggest advantages that an outfielder can have is a strong arm. This lets you throw out runners who are trying to advance on base and prevents them from taking extra bases.

Power – In today’s game, the ability to hit for power is a valuable commodity. Outfielders who can hit home runs are always in high demand.

Leadership – Although it may not seem like it, leadership is an important quality for any successful team. Outfielders need to be able to take charge and rally their teammates when things are going bad.

The Designated Hitter

The designated hitter or DH, is a position in baseball that is reserved for batters who do not play in the field. This allows teams to have one player who specializes in hitting, without having to worry about their fielding ability. The DH spot in the batting order usually comes after the pitcher, and before the catcher.

In the National League there is no designated hitter so every team must have a player who can both hit and field. This means that pitchers must take their turn at bat just like any other player on the team. In the American League however, teams are allowed to use a designated hitter This allows teams to put their best hitters in the line-up, without having to worry about their fielding ability.

So why does GCU baseball have a designated hitter? Well, our Head Coach believes that it gives us an advantage offensively. Having a player who is solely focused on hitting can really make a difference in our line-up. Plus, it allows our pitchers to focus on pitching instead of worrying about hitting.

Do you think Gcu Baseball should continue to use a designated hitter? Let us know in the comments!

The Bench

The Bench is a key part of any Baseball team It is the players who are not in the starting lineup that day who can come in and make a difference in the game. They can be used as Pinch hitters pinch runners, or defensive replacements. The following is a list of the must-haves on any Baseball roster

-A utility player who can play multiple positions
-A left-handed hitter
-A right-handed hitter
-A designated hitter
-A catcher
-An infielder
-An outfielder
