What this means for high school baseball in Georgia
This year, the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) is changing the format for the State baseball playoffs. Instead of a traditional bracket system, the playoffs will now be a double-elimination tournament. This means that each team will have two chances to lose before they are eliminated from the tournament.
The new format is designed to give every team a fair chance at winning the state championship Previously, teams that lost early in the playoffs were at a disadvantage because they had to win more games to reach the Championship game With the double-elimination format, all teams will have an equal opportunity to win.
The GHSA Baseball Playoffs are scheduled to begin on April 27th. The state championship game will be played on May 12th.
How the playoffs work
The playoffs are a single-elimination tournament held after the conclusion of the GHSA baseball regular season The tournament bracket is made up of eight teams, four from each region. The winners of each game advance in the bracket until a champion is crowned.

The top contenders
The GHSA Baseball Playoffs are Here! Many people are most familiar with the Major League Baseball playoffs that occur every October. But high school baseball also has a playoff system in order to crown a state champion. In Georgia, the Georgia high school Association (GHSA) is responsible for organizing the playoffs and selecting the participating teams.
The GHSA baseball playoffs are single elimination and begin with 32 teams. These teams are divided into four regions, and each region has its own mini-tournament. The four region champions then advance to the semifinals, and the winners of those games move on to the state championship game.
Here are some of the top contenders for this year’s GHSA Ball State championship:
-North Forsyth (27-1) is the favorite to win it all. They have only one loss on the season and that was to a out-of-state team. They are led by senior pitcher Drew Smith who has committed to play at Clemson University next year.
-Buford (25-3) is another strong contender. They have losses to North Forsyth and Blessed Trinity, but they have beaten some tough competition this season. They are led by senior outfielder Jordan Adell, who is one of the top prospects in the country and has committed to play at Louisville next year.
-Loganville (24-4) is also in the mix. They have losses to Buford, North Oconee and Richmond Hill, but they have also beaten some good teams this season. They are led by senior pitcher Dylan Cease, who has committed to play at Vanderbilt University next year.
So, who will win it all? We’ll have to wait and see!
The dark horses
With the Ghsa baseball playoffs upon us, many teams are eager to prove themselves and take home the state title. While there are always a few powerhouse teams that are favored to win it all, there are also always a few dark horse teams that rise to the occasion and make a deep run in the playoffs. Here are a few of the teams that could be considered dark horses in this year’s Ghsa baseball playoffs
-The Peachtree Ridge Lions have flown under the radar for much of the season, but they have quietly put together an impressive campaign. Led by ace pitcher Jackson Stephens, the Lions have the personnel to make a deep run in the playoffs.
-The Collins Hill Eagles have been one of the most inconsistent teams in the state this season, but they always seem to play their best when it matters most. If they can put everything together, they could be a tough out in the playoffs.
-The Rome Wolves have been one of the hottest teams in the state over the past month or so. They have solid pitching and hitting, and they always seem to find a way to win close games. If they can carry that momentum into the playoffs, they could make some noise.

In the AAAAA classification, we like the North Gwinnett Bulldogs to take home the title. They have been steady all season and have the experience to make a deep run in the playoffs.
In the AAAA classification, we think it will be the Loganville HS Red Devils who will come out on top. They have been a force to be reckoned with all season and seem to be peaking at just the right time. In AA, we like the Buford HS Wolves to take home the championship.
