The History of Good Counsel Baseball

Good Counsel Baseball is a team on the rise in the competitive world of youth baseball The team is based in Olney, Maryland and draws players from across the Washington, D.C. area.

The team was founded in 2014 by Head Coach Steve Borelli and Assistant Coach Anthony Rodriguez. Borelli and Rodriguez both have extensive experience coaching youth baseball and are committed to developing their players into college-level ballplayers.

In just its second year of existence, Good Counsel Baseball made it to the Championship game of the Baltimore Metro conference tournament where they narrowly lost to eventual champion Sparrows Point.

With a core group of talented young players Good Counsel Baseball is poised to make a run at the conference title in 2016. The team is also committed to community service and giving back to Olney and the surrounding area.

The team is led by a strong group of seniors who have been playing together for several years. They are a close-knit group and have great chemistry on and off the field.

The Coaches of Good Counsel Baseball

The Good Counsel baseball team is on the rise, thanks in part to the great Coaching Staff The head coach is Tony Simeone, who has been with the team for four years. He has a wealth of experience, both as a player and a coach. He played college baseball at Virginia Tech and then went on to play professionally for eight years. He has also coached at the High School and collegiate levels.

The assistant coaches are just as experienced and qualified as Coach Simeone. Steve Mulvey has been with the team for two years, and he also played college baseball (at Maryland) and coached at the high school level. Jared Lyons is in his first year with Good Counsel, but he played professional baseball for six years and has coached at various levels ( including serving as a hitting instructor in the Baltimore Orioles organization).

With this great coaching staff it’s no wonder that Good Counsel is on the rise!

In the infield, keep an eye on third baseman Alex Rodriguez A senior, Alex is a four-year starter who’s developed into one of the best hitters in the league. He’s got power and average, and he’s also stolen more than 20 bases in his career.

Shortstop Jose Reyes is another player to watch. A transfer from Cuba, Jose is an electrifying player with speed and power. He was named Rookie of the Year last season, and he’s only getting better.

Outfielder Miguel Cabrera rounds out our list. A five-tool player, Miguel can do it all on the baseball field He’s got power, he can hit for average, he runs well, and he plays good defense He’s also a leader in the clubhouse, and he’ll be one of the keys to this team’s success this season.

In 2019, the Good Counsel varsity baseball team compiled a 13-9 overall record and went 6-6 in the highly competitive Washington Catholic Athletic Conference Head Coach John Paquette enters his fourth season at the helm of the Falcons in 2020. Although the team fell short of its goal of winning a conference championship last year, it is poised to make a run at the title this season. The Falcons return a core group of experienced players, including all-conference performers Joey Brink (senior shortstop) and Ryan McKenna (junior pitcher/outfielder). With a strong mix of veteran leadership and young talent, Good Counsel is a team to watch in 2020.
