The Hightstown high school baseball team has been one of the most successful programs in the state of New Jersey, winning 23 State Championships and appearing in the playoffs 35 times. The team has produced many Major League Baseball players, including Hall of Famer Yogi Berra
Some of the most memorable moments in Hightstown baseball history have come in the State Tournament In 1948, the team won its first state championship defeating Newark East Side in the finals. In 1950, the team won its second state title, upsetting favored Rutherford in the finals.
In 1957, Hightstown won its third state championship defeating Phillipsburg in the finals. This was one of the most dominant teams in school history, as it also won a National Championship and finished with a record of 27-1.
The team won state championships in 1963, 1964, 1965 and 1967. In 1971, the team made it back to the finals but lost to Randolph. In 1972, Hightstown won its ninth State Championship defeating Montclair Kimberley Academy in the finals.
In 1980, Hightstown won its tenth state championship defeating39-0 Rumson-Fair Haven Regional high school in the finals. This was one of the most lopsided scores in any Championship game in any sport at any level.
The 1990s were a decade of dominance for Hightstown baseball, as the team won five straight State Championships from 1991 to 1995. The team also made it back to the finals in 1996 and 1997 but lost both times.
In 1998, Hightstown finally got back on top, defeating Seton Hall Prep in the final to win its fifteenth State Championship The team made it back to the finals again in 1999 but lost to Christian Brothers Academy.
Hightstown had another run of success early in the 2000s, as it won three straight State Championships from 2001 to 2003. The team made it back to the finals again in 2004 but lost to Don Bosco Prep
