The Hillsdale College men’s basketball team is one of the most successful programs in NCAA Division II history.
The Chargers have won four National Championships and made 22 appearances in the Elite Eight, which is more than any other team in Division II.
Hillsdale has also produced numerous All-Americans and Academic All-Americans, and has had more than its share of success in the NBA.
The History of Hillsdale Basketball
Hillsdale College has a long and proud tradition of excellence in basketball. The men’s Basketball team has won 10 conference championships and made 8 NCAA Division II tournament appearances. The women’s team has also been very successful, winning 5 conference championships and making 3 NCAA Division II tournament appearances.
Hillsdale’s Basketball Program began in the early 1900s, and the first intercollegiate game was played in 1903. Since then, Hillsdale teams have enjoyed a great deal of success, both on the court and in the classroom. Today, Hillsdale is one of the premier Division II basketball programs in the country.

The Hillsdale Basketball Program is one of the most successful and tradition-rich programs in the state of Michigan. The program has won 6 State Championships 15 conference championships, and has had 6 teams finish as state runners-up. The program has also produced numerous Division I and NBA players
The Hillsdale Basketball Coaches
Hillsdale College has a long and proud tradition of excellence in basketball. The program has produced many Great players and coaches over the years, and the current Coaching Staff is no exception.
Head coach Steve Strandberg is in his fourth season at Hillsdale, and has compiled a record of 115-45 during his time with the program. He has led the Chargers to three consecutive conference championships, and was named conference coach of the year in both 2016 and 2017.
Assistant coach Nate Higgs is in his second season with the team, and has been a valuable asset to Coach Strandberg’s staff. He is a former Hillsdale player himself, and knows the program well.
Assistant coach Eric Wood is in his first season with the team, but he has already made a significant impact. He has brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the program, and has helped Coach Strandberg implement his vision for the team.
The current coaching staff has done an excellent job of continuing the Hillsdale Basketball tradition of excellence. They have instilled a winning attitude in their players, and have taken the program to new heights.

The Hillsdale Basketball Arena
The Hillsdale basketball arena is a 3,200-seat multi-purpose arena in Hillsdale, Michigan. The arena is home to the Hillsdale College Chargers basketball team The arena was built in 1973 and is the second-oldest arena in the Great Lakes collegiate athletic conference (GLIAC).
The arena has been the site of numerous conference and regional tournaments, as well as the Division II National Tournament in 1977. In 2000, the arena was remodeled and a new floor was installed. The seating capacity was increased to 3,200 with the addition of chairback seats.
The arena is named after Harold Meylan, who coached the Chargers from 1949 to 1963. Meylan led the Chargers to 12 conference championships and six NCAA Division II tournament appearances. He was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1973.

The Hillsdale Basketball Schedule is one of the most tradition-rich schedules in all of College Basketball Every year, some of the nation’s top teams come to play at the historic Crawford Gymnasium on the campus of Hillsdale College.
