Bouyea was born in San Bernardino, California to parents Jay and Katrina Bouyea. He played High School basketball at Cajon high school in his hometown. In his senior year, he averaged 21.9 points and 5.5 assists per game leading his team to a 27-6 record.[1] He was named by MaxPreps as one of the top 100 players in the class of 2016.[2]

Bouyea played college basketball for the University of San Francisco As a freshman, he averaged 9.3 points and 2.8 assists per game [3] He missed most of his sophomore season due to injury,[4] but returned to play in all 33 games as a junior, averaging 13.2 points and 2.9 assists per game.[5][6] After going undrafted in the 2019 NBA draft Bouyea signed a training camp contract with the Portland Trail Blazers on September 23, 2019.[7][8]
