Jamestown baseball has a long and storied history. The town has been home to minor league teams since the 19th century, and the current team, the Jamestown Jammers, is the successor to a number of other teams that have called Jamestown home over the years.

The first professional baseball team in Jamestown was the Jamestown Red Bugs, who began play in 1886 as a member of the Original New York-Penn Onondaga County League. The team played its home games at Athletic Park, which was located on what is now Falconer Street. The Red Bugs were one of the most successful teams in the league, winning championships in 1886, 1887, and 1888.

In 1889, the team was replaced by the Jamestown Alleghenys, who were members of the Atlantic Association. The Alleghenys also played their home games at Athletic Park. The team only lasted one season before folding.

The next professional Baseball Team to call Jamestown home was the Jamestown Jimmies, who began play in 1896 as members of the New York-Pennsylvania League. The Jimmies played their home games at League Park, which was located on what is now Washington Street. The Jimmies were one of the most successful teams in their league, winning championships in 1896 and 1897.

The next professional baseball team to call Jamestown home was the Jamestown Aliens, who began play in 1914 as members of the Pennsylvania-Ontario-New York League. The Aliens also played their home games at League Park. The team only lasted one season before folding.

In 1919, minor League Baseball returned to Jamestown with the formation of the Pony League The league’s first champion was none other than the Jamestown Ponies, who defeated Newark in a best-of-seven series to win the title. The Ponies went on to win two more championships in 1920 and 1921 before moving to Bradford in 1922.

In 1939, minor league baseball returned to Jamestown with the formation of another Pony League The new league’s first champion was once again the Jamestown Ponies, who defeated Erie in a best-of-seven series to win their fourth championship overall and their third PONY League title. The Ponies went on to win two more championships in 1940 and 1941 before moving to Hornellin 1942.
