Joe Thompson: The Journey of a basketball player – Interviews
Joe Thompson is a 30-year-old basketball player who has journeyed through the ranks of professional basketball starting in the NBA D-League and now playing in Europe. Joe was kind enough to allow us to interview him about his career journey so far.
Us: Hi Joe, could you please tell us a bit about your basketball journey?
Joe: Sure. I started playing basketball when I was in high school and then I went on to play college ball. After college, I played in the NBA D-League for a few years before finally getting my big break and signing with a professional team in Europe.
Us: What was it like playing in the D-League?
Joe: It was tough. The competition is really good and it’s a lot different than playing in college. You’re Playing against guys who are trying to make it to the NBA, so everyone is just fighting for that one spot. It was a great experience though and I’m glad I went through it.
Us: How is playing professionally in Europe different than playing in the D-League?
Joe: It’s night and day. The level of competition is just much higher over here. Also, the style of play is completely different. In the D-League, it’s all about running and gunning and scoring as many points as possible. In Europe, the game is more about execution and discipline. It’s been a great experience so far and I’m learning a lot.
