Kate Achter was born on September 26, 1988, in Toledo, Ohio. She was the middle child of three girls. Her father worked in construction and her mother was a stay-at-home mom. Kate’s older sister played soccer and her younger sister played softball. From a young age, Kate showed an interest in basketball. When she was five years old, she begged her parents to let her play on a youth team. They finally relented when she turned seven.

Kate quickly developed into a star player In elementary school, she led her team to the City Championship In High School she averaged 22 points per game and was named the Toledo Blade Player of the Year. Achter also excelled in academics and was a member of the National Honor Society. She graduated from high school in 2006 with a 4.0 GPA.

College Career

Kate Achter played four seasons of basketball at Ohio State University from 2013-2017. She was a key member of the team that won the National Championship in 2015, and she was named an All-American in 2017. After college, Kate played professionally in the WNBA for two seasons before retiring in 2019.
