The Roster

In order to compete at the highest level college basketball teams need a starting five that can come in and make an immediate impact. The Kansas Jayhawks are no exception. Here is a look at the players that are vying for a spot in the starting lineup for the upcoming season

-Devonte’ Graham: A 6-foot-2 guard from Raleigh, North Carolina Graham is entering his junior year with the Jayhawks. He averaged 11.3 points and 4.0 assists per game last season and will be looked upon to be more of a scoring threat this year.

-Frank Mason III: A 5-foot-11 guard from Petersburg, Virginia, Mason is also entering his junior year. He was named the Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Year last season after averaging 12.9 points, 4.6 assists and 1.8 steals per game.

-Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk: A 6-foot-8 native of Ukraine, Mykhailiuk is entering his sophomore year with Kansas. He showed flashes of brilliance as a freshman, averaging 3.4 points in limited action. Look for him to see an increase in playing time this season and make an impact on both ends of the court.

-Lagerald Vick: A 6-foot-5 guard from Memphis, Tennessee, Vick is entering his sophomore year with Kansas. He saw limited action as a freshman but figures to be more involved in the rotation this season. He has good size and athleticism and could be a surprise contributor for the Jayhawks this year.

-Landen Lucas: A 6-foot-10 center from Portland, Oregon, Lucas is entering his senior year with Kansas. He has been a key player off the bench for the Jayhawks over the past few seasons and will be looked upon to provide leadership and experience to a young team this year

The Gameplan

The Jayhawks have a lot of depth this season, so it will be interesting to see how Coach Bill Self deploys his team. Here is a look at who we think will be the starting five for Kansas when they take the court this year.

1. Devon Dotson – The sophomore point guard from Los Angeles is coming off a terrific freshman season in which he averaged 12.3 points and 3.7 assists per game He’s the perfect floor leader for this team and should be in for a big year.

2. Quentin Grimes – The freshman from Houston was one of the top recruits in the country and should make an immediate impact for the Jayhawks. He’s a 6’5″ wing who can score from anywhere on the court and is a good rebounder as well.

3. Lagerald Vick – The senior wing is Kansas’ best athlete and one of their most experienced players. Vick averaged 12.1 points per game last season and shot 41% from three-point range He’ll be counted on to provide leadership and scoring this season.

4. Dedric Lawson – The transfer from Memphis had to sit out last season but is eligible to play this year. Lawson is a 6’9″ forward who averaged 19 points and 9 rebounds per game as a sophomore at Memphis. He’s a gifted scorer who can also rebound and block shots making him a key piece for the Jayhawks this season.

5. Udoka Azubuike – The 7-footer from Nigeria missed most of last season with an injury but came back strong towards the end of the year, averaging 13 points and 6 rebounds in the NCAA tournament Azubuike is an elite rim protector and one of the best offensive rebounders in the country, so he’ll be a big factor for Kansas this season when he’s on the court
