She underwent treatment and once again, she was declared cancer-free.

So she founded the Lace Up 4 Lauryn Foundation, which provides support and resources for young girls who are dealing with cancer. After graduation, Hamm founded Sisterhood Sports Academy, a Basketball Camp for girls who are deaf or hard of hearing. The camp teaches girls not only how to play basketball but also how to be confident and independent young women.

Hamm’s advocacy work has inspired many people, both inside and outside of the deaf community. In 2015, she was named one of Glamour magazine’s “35 Game Changers Under 35” and in 2016 she was inducted into the National Deaf Sports Hall of Fame
