Introduction to Lees Mcrae Basketball

Lees Mcrae college basketball is a NCAA Division II program that competes in the Conference Carolinas. The team is coached by two-time Conference Coach of the Year, Steve Shaprio, and captained by all-conference guard Luke McCoy. The Bobcats have consistently been one of the top teams in their conference, and have made several appearances in the NCAA Division II tournament.

The Team’s History

Lees McRae College is located in Banner Elk, NC, in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is a small, private school that was founded in 1900. The school’s colors are green and gold, and its nickname is the Bobcats. The school’s basketball team has a long and proud history dating back to its inception in 1932.

The team has had many Great players and moments over the years. One of the most famous players to don the green and gold was Larry Bird who played for the Bobcats from 1976-1978. In his two years at Lees McRae, Bird averaged an incredible 30 points per game leading the team to a pair of conference championships

More recently, the Bobcats have been led by Head Coach Steve Shows. Coach Shows has been at the helm since 2006, and has led the team to four conference championships and three NCAA Division II tournament appearances. The Bobcats are always contenders under Coach Shows, and look to continue their success in the years to come.
